I use degreaser and the loal "hot water" quarter car wash. Use the pressure washer on "soap" and blast down all the non sensitive areas at full blast. The only places that you don't want to go crazy near are the DME and the fuse/relay box. Other than that, blast away, it's all waterproof. I then rinse at full pressure. Rinse off the rest of the car, and pull out of the bay and dry everything off.

Good luck..clean engine bays are happy engine bays..

    Perks,

Don't be afraid of the pressure washer. It is really one of the only things that will get some of the caked on grime off. I've been pressure washing engines for years and never have had any sort of issue. It's a simple matter of being smarter than the tool that you are working with. Again, just keep direct spray from the DME and the fuse box. Other than that, soak it down with a good degreaser (like Meguiars degreaser or Castrol Super Clean), blast everything down on the "soap" setting, then rinse. I use the same method with wheel wells and the bottom side of the car. And if anyone has seen my car, they'll tell you that you can eat off of those areas.

Where are you from? If you're close to me or in a city I'll be in this summer, I'll do it for you.

Drop by your local AutoZone and get:
    Simple Green engine grease cleaner
CD2 Engine Detailer - in a spray can.

Liberally coat engine with Simple green and the grease will just fall off. Then lightly wash down with hose.
After that's dry, spray on the CD2 detailer and let it sit for 20 minutes. Spray all over hoses, plastic, metal, just keep away from belts and elec. After 20 minutes, just lightly wipe any runs off. I did this to my car 2 weeks ago, and it still looks brand new:
I'll post some pics if I get a damn digi cam anytime soon
