    Self-Leveling E34??

Looking to get a set of lowering spring for my 94 530i, and all the vendors that I check, have a set for it, however all of them say they are for E34's Except Self-Leveling versions. How would I check and see if I have self-leveling. I dont wanna pick up a set of springs and have them not fit. thanks

from this post http://www.bimmer.info/forum/showthr...light=leveling it seems self leveling in tourings were eliminated in '94.

Self leveling was standard equipment 1992-1993 (525iT)

then it was discontinued in the 525iT for model years 1994-1995.

The 530iT debuted in 1994, and LAD (rear self-leveling) became an option for the V8 (530iT) in 1994-1995...so some may have it and some may not.

The Tourings that have LAD will have a metal power steering reservoir that uses Pentosin CHF 11 S....which should be engraved into the reservoir's lid or on a sticker. Tourings with a regular suspension will have a smaller black plastic power steering reservoir that uses ATF (at least my 95 525iT does).

The only other e34 5 series that had rear self leveling was the M5.

I have a 1994 530i that I got for a project and surprisingly, it has a reservoir that says chf 11s ONLY. I got it, it had ATF in it and after a few kilometers, I would get a stiff steering and I assumed it was due to the ATF. Questions are:
    1. Is the car likely to have auto leveling suspension?
    2. How else other than from the stiffness and the reservoir caps can I know whether it has auto level or not?

The power steering pump its using is #2105980 and needs replacement. Can I replace with a non-self leveling one?

A E34 530 V8 limo usually does not have a SLS, you can easily see that when you look at the shocks, there goes a hose to the shock and the SLS shock looks like this http://forum.bmw5.co.uk/topic/119369...veling-shocks/
Maybe you clean the filter and change the power steering fluid.

    various
There were also a number of cars that got various pumps and fluid despite not having SLS, almost like bmw were emptying the parts warehouse at the end of the E34's production.

    Sundry old Grrrrmans
^I haven’t found rhyme or reason, but can confirm a strange couple different combos of model year/PS fluid. It does seem that most ‘95 540s spec the fancy stuff, however.
