    Buying 2002 318ci with 89k miles on it - what to look out for?

    Hi there....im new

    Im hopefully buying a 2002 (51 reg for those of u in the uk) 318ci with 89k miles on it.

    Can you advise what i can look out for?

    When is the clutch likley to go? What about gearbox?

    With that car, i'd watch out for the fast moving cars that want/would to pass you.

    There is no set time for a clutch to go. Some people manage to burn theirs up in under 20,000 miles, others are reaching 300 or 400 thousand miles with the origional clutch. It just depends on how it was driven. I'd set aside funds for one just in case. The transmission should be pretty solid. I wouldn't worry about it until you are up in the 200,000 mile range.

    Like silverbeam said, unless the car was beaten to death the tranny and clutch should be okay for a while.
