Well finally the day has arrived, the E30 has done it's first track day.
Wasn't able to get the 318i lowered so it went stock to the track ( just removed all the loose stuff and rear seats and checked the fluids levels).
The car did 4x 30 minutes sessions without any complaint ( no overheating, no lack of brakes, no oil consumption)
Here are the photos as they say a lot more hehehe ( some are me driving - black helmet, others are from my friend and co-owner Hugo)

Awesome - you look like you are having the time of your life!
I wish i could do a track day, but still need to find out what the requirements are, etc,...
Thank you for sharing!

Holy body roll! Did you even have body roll on the straights? j/k. At first I thought you were talking about an 84 318i. Anyways, looks like you had a blast.

Ha, "Mini Van" means something completely different over there
Looks really fun. Pardon my ignorance, but why do you X out the headlights?
I was thinking the same thing.Originally Posted by KevRC4130

looks like a blast! what size are those tires?? doesnt look like theyd hold to well, they look tiny!
You're right.....but those little "x"s of tape ain't gonna do it. You gotta get full coverage. To keep broken glass from getting on the track.
No way! It's nice to see someone putting their money into their skills, rather than their car. Get the skills, THEN get the suspension!holy shit get suspension!!!!
Now, please tell the story behind THIS photo:
Nice to see you liked the pics
You were right, I was having a great time
shellback
In portugal for a track-day all you need is:
- drivers licence
- car without leaks of fluids and with tow hooks
- helmet and protective gloves
So anyone can get their everyday car and enjoy themselves, unfortunetely trackdays only happen every now and then, not regular through out the year...
ultimachi
It's a 1988 318i M40 engine without Kat ( around 115 bhp)
It has 202k km's and probably original suspensions with 16 years lol
e30bokes
We already have the H&R springs, but didn't had time to install and suspensions are expensive. for now it'll have to do lol
KevRC4130
What does it mean?? Now i'm curious ehehe
The tape cross is like said to avoid a lot of debris around the track if an accident happens. I also believe it's not enough but if the organizer doesn't mind a simple cross will do ( at the end of the day you have to remove it to drive home anyway)
straigh6pwr
The car has 185/60 R14 tires ( bridgestone potenza RE720 at the front and Yokohama something at the rears)
Yes they're tiny, but for some sideways action the 115bhp will not allow bigger tires.
So for now we'll just buy second hand tyres to burn, the track is very abrasive (sp?) and even with 36psi the sidewalls were "eaten" by the agressive driving
halfshaft
I agree with you, first get to know the car stock, then knowing it's weakness get the wallet and improve it.
The car was a great surprise at the track, very neutral going in and then with a little throttle and steering the back end would come out in control
The brakes (slotted, but still solid, ATE powerdisc, already installed by previous owner) held allright at my pace, but when tried to do some late braking a couple of lapes they started to heat.
The pic is a good one, I wanted to say that I had overtook the vti on the inside lol
But the truth is that the red car is my friends Bruno and Artur ´92 Honda Civic EG6 Powered by B18C (also known as Boo! the little engine that could ) and it's mighty fast, i was in their way LOLOL and they over took me after the corner
Lot's of carbon parts, race spec suspension, racing slicks, rollcage, lexan side windows, etc etc
A well tuned car with greats looks, but fwd ihihiihihi
Not fast enough for the race spec, sequencial gear box renault clio with the same 200bhp
Who knows some day with a race spec 320is our an e30 M3 i'll be able to pass him....or not ahahaha
What track in Portugal is that? It's not Estoril, is it?
It is Estoril track
I live very near it.
You can see more of it here -> http://www.circuito-estoril.pt/modul...showpage&pid=1
We only have two permanent tracks at Portugal, Estoril ( Autodromo Fernanda Pires da Silva is the correct name) and the Autodromo de Braga ( a track build around old airport strip )
The portuguese prefer football , we have many stadiums for thousands of people but only a couple of tracks...
At last trackdays are getting popular
The movies are starting to appear
No parts of my E30, except at the final seconds ( a grey e30 on the pit lane )
Bu t very good overall -> http://rapidshare.de/files/671766/Tr....2.05.wmv.html
Wow, you need some sway bars pretty bad! Eu morei perto de um autodromo tambem. Sabe Interlagos, no Sao Paulo, Brazil? Fiquei ao lado dele! Meu pai tinha um S4 que andavamos frequentamente la'.
Good to see you on the track and not the STREET. Props.
