GuitarDTO,
The best sizes would be either 18X8 or 18X8.5 with 225/40R18 all the way around or you can mix the front size with the 18X9 rear and a 255/35R18 tire on the rear.
If I can help with the tires let me know.
Thanks Jim! Alan at modbargains was very helpful and basically said the same as you. He said the standard wheel for my car in 18" would be 18x8.5 et 40 in front and 18x9.5 et 33 in rear with 225/40 tire in front and 255/35 tire in rear. I've ordered the csl wheels and will be picking out some tires when I get the wheels. Thanks for the help!!!Originally Posted by Jim@tirerack
Jim I just spent two hours try to figure all this stuff out and see if I can make my new rims fit. The more I read the more confused I get. So its time to ask the experts. I went bach through at least 20 pages of this thread and still found nobody with my exact rims and car. I'm sure there in there I just can't spend three days finding it.
My car 1997 328ic. stock non-sport suspension. The rims I want to put on are Style 42's 17x8 and I believe et20. It says IS20 on them. I know the hub hole on them is larger than my e36 rims.
I assume I will need spacers, hubcentric rings and posssibly longer bolts. I'm refinishing them right now for summer rims. If I can't get them to fit I will finish them and sell them. I want to run 225/45 on them. Is any of this possible?
I guess I should add that this car will never see a track. I just want to know if I can do this safely.

hey im looking at a set of rims for my e36 323. stats are:
XXR Series 522 Black
-Front: 19 x 8.5in, 15mm or 38mm offset
-Rear: 19 x 10in, 20mm or 42mm offset
what im wondering is will these fit, which offset should i use for each (which is better than the other, if at all), will i need to roll the fenders, and if they do fit, what size tires can i fit on them?

I don't think the 19X10 and the 19X8.5 is going to fit without modification. The offset seems to be correct for the rear but a little low for the front. To get enough load capacity you are going to have to run a 235/35R19 front and they are 1/2" taller than stock. The rear will have to be a 265/30R19 and they are going to stick out of the wheel well. I suppose you can make them fit but it will not be a direct bolt on and go.
hey Jim, i have a 93 318iS with stock suspension. i'm looking at getting 18x8 enkei performance lusso rims with 225/40/18 tires. would these fit without needing to do any adjustments?
King Hax,
I would go as big as 18" on the car. The car does handle better with the same size on all four corners. If I can help let me know.
Hey all, I ran a search on this thread but didn't come up with anything for this particular question...
I have an e46 with style 45 wheels (16x7, 47 offset).
I'm wondering whether I can swap on some e90 wheels, specifically style 338, which are 17x8, 34 offset.
I know an offset of 34 is below the recommended acceptable range of 35-50 for the e46. Would this be a problem? Otherwise it seems like the specs should fit...
Thanks

I heard that if i went up a size from the stock 18s I would lose my sport suspension handling, is this true? Dont some models of the 2006 330I come factory equiped with 19inch wheels? Can anyone tell me if there is a substantial performance risk involved with an up size on performance wheels and tyers?
Thanks
Hey Jim will i lose performance handling if I upsized my wheels from 18 to 19 on a 06 BMW 330I sport package? Thanks
Ive seen a bunch on Craigslist in my area of PA . I have a 06 330i sport as well, are 19inch wheels a bad idea in your opinion?
I am struglling with the same decision and have been unable to come up with the answer.... any luck on which is the best option ?

You won't loose the sport handling. Just choose a better handling tire. You will get better ride quality and the tires and wheels will be less likely to get damaged with the
18". If I can help let me know.
If you go up a size you actually will have even quicker turn in response and better lateral stability. The ride quality will not be as good though.
Hi Jim, im thinking about getting some 18x8.5 et38 square setup for my 1998 m3 on stock suspension. do you think ill have any problems rubbing, or any problems at all? thanks for your advice.

Hey Jim,
Got a quick question for you I'm about to run 8x17 and 9x17 style 32s.The car is lowered about 3-5 inches I got all Fenders rolled which tire setups would you recommend me so i can order them from you guys. Thanks in advanced .
I said a ten-second car, not a ten-minute car.
I don't think the 17X9 is going to work with that kind of drop. Maybe more negative camber and narrow tires. I would say just run the 17X8 and 225/45R17 all the way around.
I can raise it no problem just trying to get that flush look. So 225/45R17 would do ?Originally Posted by Jim@tirerack
