I am thinking about purchasing an E39 M5 and I wanted to know whether the winter wheels/tires I bought for my E36 M3 would still fit, or should I get rid of those too?

The winter wheels and tires are AT Italia Type 5's, 7.5x17, 225/45 front and 8.5x17, 245/40 rear. The tires are Blizzak LM-22's. Would the fronts even work anymore or would I need huge spacers?

    Thanks,
    -John

Whither E36 steel wheels on an e90

Ceteris paribus will 'standard' steel wheels from a 2002 E36 fit without any spacers on an E90?

Jim, can you see here please?

I am wondering about the +22 offset on the HM2's in the rear. Also, can I fit 245/35 on the front wheels with a 32 or a 38 offset? The thread explains the whole situation.

    Thanks.

First off 3 Series wheels will not fit a 5 Series. I do not have any 16" steel wheels for the E90. My guess would be they do not have enough brake clearance.

My guess is that a 22mm offset wheel is going to rub and the front wheel offset you mention is going to be tough on the front. Without some fender lip rolling and maybe more negative camber I think it is going to rub.

Thanks for the response, Jim. You don't think the 19X10 et22 will fit in the rear even though the old owner ran 19X10 et24 with some slight rubbing?

Also, for the fronts, I would want 19X8.5 et32 LMs with 245/35 but would go 235/35 to fit. Is a 235/275 F/R combo too extreme?

If the old owners package rubbed then the 22mm offset is goint to rub a little more. You can always roll the fender lip and run more negative camber and make it work.
If I can help let me know.

you want to go with a higher offset to make it work...if a 24 rubbed then you want a (maybe) 28mm or 30mm

That is correct. The only thing is that with a wheel that wide you can't go to high or it will rub on the inside.

I have a '92 325is running on 225/45/17's in the front and 245/45/17's in the back instead of 245/40/17's. Will this combination cause any problems?

I just put them on yesterday. I have not felt any problems so far. Does anyone else has the same setup?

It will throw off the anti lock brakes, speedometer, odometer and gear ratio. Other than that you would be fine. I don't think they had traction control on that year car.
I would say not a good idea.

    Jim at Tire Rack

I have a 2002 E39 currently running M5 wheels and tires (245/40x18 front and 275/35x18 rear). I'm looking to replace all four with something that is quiet (no/minimal road or tread induced noise) and perhaps NON-directional as I prefer to "rotate" them. (Obviously not front-to-back but rather side-to-side.)

I looked at your website and noticed some BFG's G-Force Sports and Kumho ECSTA ASX's. Are these quiet riding tires? Can you name others that might fit my needs. Although price is always a consideration I would also consider a higher priced tire if it serves my needs.

As I don't push my vehicle anywhere close to the limits, performance oriented tires are NOT necessarily an issue.

    Thanks.

I have stock bottlecaps (15x7) for an e36. I have read conflicting reports in this thread on what tire to get. I would like to run 225/50x15, will this work for sure or will I have to run 205/60x15. Also will the shortened height of the 225/50's mess with my speedo a lot?

    Thanks!!

    I wouldn't run a 225 on a 7 inch rim it will look buldged...215 max 50 series is fine and a 45 for a better look

Won't 45's be quite a bit shorter than stock? Will this through off speedo a lot?

    Thanks for the help.

Not much shorter 50's to 45's isnt all that much and I really dont "think" in my mind that you will ever be able to tell the difference. I went from 15 inch stockers on my car to 18's and didnt bat an eyelash...the only thing I actually noticed was tramlining in the very beginning (1st 50 miles or so) after that it was (felt like) I hadn't changed a thing on the car. I'm speaking from experience...I know what the books say, but real world is sometimes different.

    I run 205/50/15's on my auto-x car.

I test fitted my firend's 225/45/15 hoosiers on my car and they fit.

    One question....

What is the diffence between those 2 sizes in overall diameter. I didn't hav a chance to put both tires side by side.....

will a 16" tire off my 16x7.5" wheels fit on a 16x7" wheel? I cant find any 16x7.5 wheels that are new that dont cost a fortune. I have some old Borbet Design T's but they have taken a few hits on the rough PA roads and well they arent even close to round anymore. MY tires are still good and even though i wish to go to 15" wheels i cant justify throwing away good tires for no reason. If any one know where i can find a lightwieght 16x7.5" wheel please let me know. Or if someone is interested in a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE750's that are about 70% little camber wear thats all.
