I am wondering what the tread width of the 235/40-17 Kuhmo MX is. Is it on the wide or average or narrow side of tires. thanks.
Go to the specs section for that MX on Tire Racks website. It'll tell you all the tech info on the tire.
"Way-dull" Racing #74
I would run a 235/40R17 for the best performance. Run that size front and rear with the 17X8 wheel and you would be good to go.
Robb, I would go with the ASA for the money and they are still light and look good on the car. Quality they are very good as well. For the 1 lb difference it won't matter much. The tire size I would recommned would be the 205/50R16 unless you are willing to maybe roll the fender lips.
If I can help let me know.
I have a 530i (non-sport model so the car sits a little higher) all stock except I have M5 rims/tires. Fronts are 245x40x18 and rears are 275x35x18. I’m looking to replace the rear tires and had two questions. I don’t know the rim width (I bought the tire/rim used) but was told they are the standard M5 rims (which I can confirm that they are). My car is the stock height and does NOT have the sport package (which sits about 1-2 inches lower than mine).
I would like to go one size taller (but same width) on the rear to “fill out” the wheel wells without lowering the car. Is this possible? What size tire am I looking for? And will I have any problems with the ASC? I’m concerned that the ASC will “see slippage” because the rears are now rotating slower than normal when compared to the front tires.
Second question. I’m looking more for a smooth ride with very little tire noise. Would a non-directional tire give me a quieter ride. I’m not a hard driver so maximum performance is not what I’m looking to get out of a tire. I’ve gotten over 100K on a clutches and brakes and 60K on tires (for my truck) and about the same on all of my cars. But I’m not a slow driver as I frequently do 75-80 on the open roads.
I plan on replacing the front tire soon too, so please keep that in mind when suggesting tire replacement. Thanks!
First off you really can not go to a taller tire on the car. It would not fit in the wheel well without rubbing and it would throw off the anti lock brakes.
As far as a tire recommendation goes I would look at the Goodyear GSD3 in a performance tire or you may want to look at a tire like the Yokohama AVS DB S2. The DB S2 would offer better ride, longer wear and they are very quiet. They will not handle as good as the GSD3 at the limits but they are a good handling tire.
If I can help let me know. Thank you
OK. Thank you!! I thought there might be problems with the ASC but wasn't sure. Didn't think about clearance problems.Originally Posted by Jim@tirerack
I need to clarify. This is actually my friend's car and he sent me a question. So I copied and pasted. He's bought my M5 tires and rims but they look a little out of place sitting on a car that's a little higher than "normal". But thanks for the feedback. I'll relay it on to him.
Well 235/40/17 isn't available for the tire im looking at.
would 245/40/17 work? or stick to 225/45/17
or 235/45/17
Tire is Pirelli PZero Nero M+S

I want to replace the stock tires/rims on a '99 328i (that makes it an E46 right?). I'm confused by all the jargon. What wheel/tire size can I use? This is my everyday car, so I'd like to beef it up a notch without getting too crazy with it. I have 2 constraints: 1) I don't want to get into custom stuff - no fender rolls, etc. and 2) no really expensive stuff.
I believe the stock rim size is 8Jx17 - can I go larger?
I believe the stock tire size is 225/45 - can I go larger?
Can I put wider rims in the rear?
Will I need spacers if I change size?
Any ideas?
i am sure this has been asked but i cant find it.. any help would greatly be appreciated...
can i put the m3 wheels ..
Front Wheel (Chrome shadow) (E46 M3) 8 x 18 225/45 ZR18 bmw part number 36 11 2 229 950
Rear Wheel (Chrome shadow) (E46 M3) 9 x 18 255/40 ZR18 bmw part number 36 11 2 229 960
on a 2001 325i e46 with zsp package with 17 inch factory wheels..
i wanted to put the exact m3 setup .. including the wider 255's in the rear.. if this would work please post...
i didnt think there was any physical differences in the m3 or non m3 series... assumed all 3 series measured the same ... as far as fender height etc...
thanks for your time...

how about 245/40/18 on an e36 18x8.5 et35 ?
Can I fit a 275/30/19 on a 9" wide rim?

Jim,
I'm the guy with the 325iX. I went with the ASA AR1 per your recommendation. I was looking to do it on-line and use your name, but I had questions concerning mounting, etc. So I went ahead and placed the order over the phone.
Anyway...When I mounted the ASAs last night, I torqued them to 80lbs since that's the spec I used for the stock basket-weaves. Is that correct? If not, what should I torque them to?
Rob
Darrell, I can tell you from experience the rears won't fit. You can run four fronts though which is fairly common.Originally Posted by fu98

Heres one- 18x8.5 ADR Msports ET35 Im running 225/40-18 all around and I want something wider in the rear. The car is lowered with Bilstein/Eibach. What would fit best in the rear:
245/40
255/35
255/40
what do you guys think of this wheel? will they fit my 325is? they are 17x8. 5x120mm and ET35. -Thanks guys
The 35mm offset will be tough to clear the fender lips. I think you are going to have to roll the fender lip to make this wheel fit.
Looking for new tires on 19" Hamann PG2 ... front is 19x8.5 ET19 and rear is 19x10 ET19. I want miles/ride over performance, and I've got snow tires (from TR :->) for winters.
It will fit with no problems on stock and even lowered suspensions. The tire size would be 225/45-17 all aroundOriginally Posted by abemcclellan

what 18's and 19's can i run with out having to roll the fenders or anything? also what size tires should i run, its a 95 bmw 325i stock suspension, looking for at least 18's but i dont want to rub, thanks alot, chris
I just bought some 17x7.5 rims and was wondering what tires to buy, 235/40/17 or 225/45/17. I don't want to have any rubbing problems because my car ('95 325is) is lowered about 1.5" all around. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am going to get the Kumho Ecsta ASX I think. Also, the offset is +41 on the rims, is this correct for the car?
18 x 8.5" Gunmetal ACS Type III's from OCWheelWurx(35mm offset), with 235/40/ZR18's all around. I have a Ground Control coil-over kit, with 19 x 8" Konigs (235/35 front, and 245/35 rear) currently. Any rubbing issues here?
Note: My 19" Konigs will be for sale shortly. PM me if you are interested.
Bigdavid, I think the 225/45R17 or 235/40R17 will both work fine with no rubbing. If I can help with the tires let me know.
Murdoc, Unfortunately I think you could have a problem with that set up. First off you have a tire that is about 1/2" taller than stock and then the car is lowered. Then you add a wider wheel and a lower 35mm offset and I can see some rubbing.
What size tire would you recomend for this then?Originally Posted by Jim@tirerack
