Jim, I'm a little confused; wasn't sure if adding to this thread was the way to go.
Here's the problem; 2017 x drive 330i Sportwagon
The OEM Conti 225/45s R18s are shot:
-Replacements should be non-runflats as an experiment.
-I want good-handling all seasons; I have Blizzaks for now, but we get lots of rain and late snow.
-My current Contis' sidewalls are flush with the rims, and the rims have been scuffed. A lot.
-I need tires that offer a raised rib sidewall to protect the rims.
-Would a different size offer a sidewall that would stand proud of the rims?
I'll get the rims fixed this winter, but am tired of dealing with the scuffs.
Ideas?
Dan

Mikky', the tires themselves sound like they meet all my needs; the question remains if they would offer any degree of protection for my wheels.
As noted in the original post, my wheels are nearly flush with the sidewalls; would these make any difference?
Also, do non-runflats have a different sidewall profile compared to the runflats?
Dan
They do offer rim protection, but my own experience is only with 16"sizes on several vehicles.
Call Tire Rack for confirmation on 18".
