New member here so I thought I should start it right: with a good kill. Now I've done a 2 litre conversion, pistons and connecting rod balance, mild port and polish on the head, flywheel lightening, magnaflow muffler sport clutch and a cold air intake on my car. Anyway, I was heading home from work today along a long street (8th) known for drag racing. I stop at a red light in the middle lane (3 lane street) and this 98 Integra Type R stops to the right of me. I look at him just cuz I like the looks my old car gets still and he revs up his popcan. I'm thinking, I shouldn't have a chance because the streets are a bit slick from all the melting snow. Light goes green, I drop in at 2500 rpm at half throttle then full throttle once the tach starts climbing. He takes a half car length on me until I run my second gear all the way up to 6000 rpm. He had to shift to third and by then I caught him, shifted to third and let 3rd take me to 100 mph and then I had to turn right. I turned right in to a lot which I was going to get food and the guy comes up to me and asks what I did to my car to beat his, which is like 15 years newer. He had the usual bolt ons: muffler, headers, air intake, stickers. He couldn't believe that I beat him, then again, neither could I. Only thing I really need is better brakes. Going down from 100 mph in a half block is a bit hairy, especially with stock brakes and wet roads!
Well damn, I had no idea that kind of work on a 320 would make that much of a difference.
I don't want much from a woman. Just want a little peace and quiet. Give me a piece and I'll be quiet.
I'm a skeptic, probably a really bad driver. What are 98 Teggies suppost to pull in the 1/4? Because a stock 320i is suppost to be an 18.8second 1/4 car.

I know my car's not far from stock, but even my cousin with a 500 hp Cutlass says my car is pretty quick even though we've raced and he tore the paint off of my passenger side with his gobs of torque. I tend to keep up with most late 90's hondas, unless they've done a lot of mods. I forgot to mention that I have Bilstein shocks and Suspension tech springs with all new urethane bushings. Those things make alot of difference when accelerating. I think that the guy was a pretty bad driver with too much money and didn't know where to put it.
Really, all you've done to add power is the 2.0 conversion, which unless you used higher compression pistons or a higher duration cam only adds a couple horse at best. The cold air intake on m10's is debated as to weather or not it adds power. And the muffler won't really have done anything for power.
Although dropping a pound or two off the flywheel will help the car get the power to the ground quicker, and an aftermarket clutch isn't a bad thing. The Billies rock, I've got H&R springs though, I love the way the car feels with that setup.
But you're maybe looking at 16 seconds on a good day, you probably just found a really dumb driver.
Not knocking on you, I have a passion for the e21s. We're just not much of a straight line monster until you add some boost.

I'm betting my money on the bad driver, I wouldn't think of actually beating the guy if he drove good. But the 2 liter conversion does bring back some torque that the 320i lost in 79. My plan is to add a turbo as soon as the thing gets out of customs. I'm debating the style of turbo actually, but I can't wait for the day when I beat the integra straight up not matter how good of a driver he is.
My bro has raced other Civic Sis out there and sometimes he'd take them on by a lot...sometimes he'll win by a bit...sometimes he'll stick head to head...
it all depends on the driver
a Type R is a 14.9 or so car....so maybe those mods are helping out
I forgot to mention my differential is a 4.10 LSD which I've found makes a huge difference when it comes to acceleration over the stock (gross) 3.64 open differential. Even being able to keep up with late 90's cars is an accomplishment for an e21 I figure.
First congratz on what you have done to your car, im an E21 owner myself which is why im sceptic, I have swapped a built S14 from a 91 m3 into my 77 E21 320, and i dont think i could pull on a integra type r, if it really was a type r.
With equally skilled driver, the Type-R will kill most lower model BMW except for 330, Mcoupe, M3, 540, M5. 645, 745..etc you get the picture
While i am in no way a honda fan, those integras arewnt to bad, and are often underestimated
Type R's are pretty quick cars. stock vs. stock m3/type r is a tight race. Even modded one's can give an e36 m3 a run for its money.
good kill, ever since i turbocharged my 320, noone wants to play
Those are killer looking 320is men! I wish mine looked that good, well it will after I'm done with it in the summer. I hope my turbo comes in. Hey Me21, what turbo setup do you have?
Yeah, when I put my stickers on my car, my peak HP went up by 50!! Just bustin yer chops. I don't know much about 320's, but ITR's pull around 14.5 or so in the 1/4 mile. Bolt-on's really have to be done carefully, as some intakes, exhausts, etc can actually decrease performance. Nice run, though.Originally Posted by dmanb55

Where'd you get the 4.10? From an e30?

I ordered the different gear set and installed it along with Synthetic 75W90 in the rear end.
Good kill. I find it very hard to believe, but I guess the Type-R had a very bad driver.
///ME21: You're car looks amazing!!!
My theory is "A win is a win!" I just wish my car looked like ME21's does. Mine needs some bodywork, but the Camaro bucket seats I bolted to the floor make the ride sick low.

- the M3 has much, much more low-end torque and is better off the line-
- Type-R was difficult to launch well off the line because you had to rev it high and feather the clutch which is difficult to do just right.
- Type-R handles very well but is not as stable as an M3 is at higher speeds and over bumps.
- Type-R is way lighter than an M3.
Both are fantastic cars.
