Made my cold-air intake today and damn!, love the growl sound. I dunno if there is a hp increase or not but the car does respond at all time especially at start. It made people watch. The front with alumunium mesh, the growl from the cold-air intake.
Tomorrow i going to modify my heat shield.
Would anyone know what difference i will get with/without a heat-shield.

    Sean,

I don't know about the difference a heat shield makes. If you figure it out, please advise. I have a K&N intake with no shield and wonder if it's worth it.

A heat shield covering the cone filter alone won't make much of a difference at all. However, a heat shield that sections off the area that the intake is located in will be very effective. Just remember, that for every 7° increase in air temp. above 60°F, your engine will lose about 1% horsepower. This is a very rough rule of thumb, but it gets the point across.

ok i gave up the heat-shield. The K&N Cone i got takes too much area.
But what i did is sacrifice the driver's fog.Cut out a big hole in the fog (the lens (were already gone), fit in a mesh over on the fog.
I saw that the air now coming thru the fog is re-directed upwards, right to the filter.
Hopefully the cold-air temp obtained thus will negate the engine -bay air.

My setup was pretty simple to install. I think what made the biggest difference is the home made air duct. This thing really blasts cool air onto the air filter.

My temp gun reads up to 60 deg cooler on the inside of the heat shield.

    Tick,
That is really cool. Mine looks like the except for a steel pipe i usd those flexi-alumunium.
But i like your heat-shield.How did you make your shield. Also is it attached to any part of the car-engine.
I want to make a shield like that. I tried with alumunium sheet and it won't fit it correctly.

I also used flexible aluminum ducting. I have it getting air from the brake duct in the front of the bumper. The ducting is like 6" in diameter so it provides tons of flow at high speed. As for the heat shield, I got it at orchard hardware. $6 bought enough to make 2. It sits there by itself and does'nt need to be attached. I recently replaced the heat shield with a thicker one. I'll posts pics later.
