Can't believe it. I had an '01 S4 with APR chip and bested a 4.98. My previous best in my e46 M3 was a 4.82. I have tried starting from a bunch of different rpm combinations with results anywhere from 4.66: to 5.23'''. I have read from Motor Trend that they got their best 0-60 times were with "little or no wheelspin". On the converse, I have read from Evo or Performance Car that they got their best time with a 4000 rpm start. Obviously you can't just drop the clutch while simultaneously mashing the gas and not expect to turn the rear tires into smoking hoops of rubber.
Here is how I did it if you care......
I started at about 3200 rpm and dropped the clutch. Keep the gas at the same point for a fraction of a second. This will allow the wheels to catchup at the same time that you put your foot to the floor. By starting that way, it allows for some wheelspin without bogging down. I have probably tried 25 or so launches working on the 0-60 times and this is by far the best time I have ever got. BTW, it was 83 degrees here in Dallas tonight and I probably had 50 lbs of crap in my trunk and about 1/4 tank of fuel. Oh, for those doubters, I can post pics. Yeah, I AM pretty excited about it.
Anyone else have some launch techniques or GTech Pro 0-60 times?? Anyone with serious drag experience?
Let me know what you have got as your best 0-60 and your car + mods.....
Oh, on another note, some guy flew by me in a GTP and I just couldn't let him go.... Next light I let him take about a 3 car length lead and then had him by 60 mph. Next light he was like "What the heck do you got under the hood?!?!" I told him it was a 325i with a M3 body kit and exhaust. :

Nice run!
I'm curious. Did you have your car weighed prior to the GTech testing?
I understand that the only way to have true accurate readings, is to have the exact vehicle weight, or else you are getting false readings.
2013 MCB F10 M5 BMS
2014 Rubicon
2007 997 Turbo
2011 C6 Z06
2007 Shelby GT500
Actually G-tech doesn't need the weight for the acceleration modes. If you want to find your horsepower then you need the weight.
Those times sound pretty good to me! Heck, I would be excited if I got a 5.23 to 60. The best 0-60 times I got were 5.38 to 60. That was in 35 degree weather on not the best road, I think I'm good for about another tenth of a second on top of that...
The best way to get 'accurate' G-tech numbers it to make a number of runs and average them. My average G-tech runs that night were like 5.45 seconds to 60, not too shabby for a E36, and I think I still have potential for faster too. I havn't yet done a quarter mile run though, I can't find any good roads for it around here...
PS. I love it when people ask 'what the hell do you in that thing??' Sometimes I tell them the truth, other times I say turbo charged four cylinder or V8 or something just to keep 'em guessing.

Longhorn,
The technique you used to launch your car is the same I've been using in for years, no matter what car I've owned. I have a 95 M3. Keeping the revs around 3k is what worked best for me. Don't like the G-tech, though. It's pretty inaccurate. My friend had one and it was giving all of our cars some pretty optimistic numbers. Had my 0-60 somewhere in the high 4's, if I remember correctly. Hit the track if you want to know for sure.
Good Luck
Isn't it supposed to be accurate within .1 sec in the 0-60mph measurement?
Longhorn,
You forgot to let Bozack try it out this weekend. Nice run and keep trying to improve.
Yeah, I am not sure if I am buying it. I have seen Longhorn drive.
Just kidding as I am looking at picking up a G-tech now for myself to roast my tires practicing too.
Weird, its been extremely accurate for me.Originally posted by UNVMYM3

Who is Bozak?
where are yall located??
I am in Dallas.... just put new shoes on the rears...... yeah, 10,000 miles and I put new Pilot's on the rears to the tune of about $700.

Oh, Mike, why didn't you remind me!! I would have let you drive when we left TMS! Well, next time I am in Austin, I promise to let you have a whirl..... Of course, that means that I get to drive yours!

I've gotten a 4.63 with the Gtech Pro in my 2002 M3 with SMG.
how is gtech vs, the ones from www.beltronics.com, and www.escort.com

Longhorn blew his engine, since then, right?
1999 Cosmos Black/Dove Grey BMW ///M3 convertible - 5 speed - SOLD
2005 Atlantic Blue Pearl/Taupe Leather Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Wagon - 5 speed - SOLD
2014 Tenorite Grey/Black Mercedes-Benz GLK 250 - bone stock.
2013 Bianco/Rosso Abarth 500c - 5 speed
2016 Oxford White/Grey Ford Transit 250 Powerstroke 148 MR (DIY RV conversion)
uh..... this was from 2002.... wow, I didn't even know you could dig up threads this old. Yeah, I did blow an engine... actually it was exactly 1 year ago tomorrow. Since then the new engine has done well with no issues... actually the whole car has done well. Other than eat tires every 8000 miles (or less) all I have done is change the oil.
But it looks like I will be getting another car here soon. Now that I got a Touareg, I don't really a car that can do it all. so, I am looking at a Superformance Cobra.

Gtech's are surprisingly accurate for e.t.s if you make a run on a perfectly flat/straight road. The trap speeds are usually higher by 2-3 mph for instance my 91 SER trapped 99 when it hits about 97 at the track.
Out of all the cars i've owned i think my stock M3 is by far the easiest to launch, maybe it's been all the practice with fwd cars with no torque. The trick to launching any car is to find the right rpm and NEVER dump the clutch unless you're on slicks.
I usually hold a steady rpm and let the clutch out about 75%, the tires will want to spin a bit (a little bit of wheelspin is good for a healthy launch) As you let the clutch out you're giving it gas till you feel the tires regain traction then you let the clutch all the way out and romp on the gas.
Here is a vid of me launching my M3 the other night against a full bolton prelude (that hits consistent 2.1-2.2's at the track on street tires and a 02 maxima that runs similar 60 foot times. My best launch ever was in my turbo civic on some tiny 20" e.t drags, i pulled a few 1.8's launching off the rev limiter. I was usually able to hit 2.1's-2.2's consistently on 14" crappy h rated street tires on the civic/91 SER.
Pardon the 3rd gear miss, my stock shift knob was broken and everytime i shifted to 3rd it ended up in my hand a foot or so off the shifter. The video is also in quicktime so just let it load up inside the webpage instead of saving it or viewing it with windows media.

I remember this thread...
As far as best launch, check out the Launch Tips thread parked at the top of the Track Forum.
And Jkan, G-Techs are not that accurate, unless you consider 2 tenths in either direction "accurate", where as in drag racing, that's the world....
old..........
Jkan - the link for that movie's not working.
Wow! So many people - so many opinions! I have read about different tastes and choices and I also find my perfect forms here:https://escortinprague.info/ I hope you also find it out!
