    What are those black things on the side mirrors of the new M cars?

    What are they?




    Oh and by the way, the new E55 IS NOT faster than the new M5 in a straight line, 0-124 MPH:

    E55: 16.1 seconds
    M5: Less than 15 seconds
    M6: Less than 14 seconds

    I remember a few people comparing 0-60 times and saying that since the E55's is something like 0.1 second faster than the M5's then the E55 is faster. Well, this is what happens after 60 so Mercedes can go to hell, I bet the E55 can't even reach 205mph like the M5 can. Anyway, what are those black things?

    I'm pretty sure they're part of a system that makes sure you're staying in your lane.
    The sensors in the mirrors watch the road and give you an alarm of some kind if you stray out of your lane when the car thinks you didn't mean to.

    Yup, according to BMW press it can and did in testing.
    Of course, the production models are limited to 165 or so.

    Less than 14 seconds... WOW. I wonder when all these HP wars will end. Getting a little out of hand, epsecially on MB's end. ALL the new AMGs are fast cars IMO. Oh well...

    It will probably be a while since they have yet to release any parts, software or otherwise for the current 545i, 645i or 745i. I heard they are having a hard time with programing around the double vanos.

    And as far as the black things on the mirror they are purely a design element...no fancy electronics sorry
