Lowering E39 540iA with EDC and Self Levelling Suspension

Hi, I want to lower a 540iA which is equipped with EDC and Self Levelling Suspension. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Will I be loosing EDC and SLS functionality when I change my shocks/springs?

PS: I am not totally sure if it has SLS. The car is a Protection model and I remember reading somewhere that the Protection models were equipped with SLS, but I'm not totally sure. Is there any way to find out if it has SLS or not?

It is your car and you can do with it what you please...but to remove it is very puzzling..and just in case you don't have a grasp of what your car has...

EDC (electronic damping control) uses 4 electronically controlled shocks that are constantly & automatically adjusting to road conditions, driver steering response, and other data that is coming from sensors around the car by opening & closing 4 internal solonoid dampers allowing the oil inside to move thru the chambers to supply 3 driving response curves (soft/medium/hard). EDC is modern driving technology at its finest...to remove them and install conventional shocks that basically only do one thing... ...I...I...find it hard to find the words. If you have rear self-leveling ... the power steering reservoir should contain Pentosin CHF 11 S oil instead of ATF. The PS reservoir lid should be engraved with the type of oil it takes or have a label that indicates oil type. You should also see two bombs (pressure accumulators) under the rear suspension
on each side with hydraulic lines running to the shocks.

I used to own a 91 735iL that had EDC & rear self-leveling and I couldn't phathom removing the EDC to go conventional. As far as handling...it was much more sporty than the e38 I have now (without EDC). Although your car isn't as low as you'd like...the EDC suspension uses springs that give a lower drop than the average 540i.

May I ask, if you are a fan of the lowered look...why did you get a car that has features like EDC & rear self-leveling? To spend the money for those options, then turn around and remove them is kinda unusual.

You will be removing the single thing that makes your car special and also what you have paid a premium for. It doesn't make sense and you will regret it. My advice would be not to do it.

"Third-generation EDC (EDC III) became available on most 5, 7 and X5 vehicles in model year 2001." ...

So that would mean EDC I & II has been in the e34 & e39 previous to model year 2001. I believe EDC was first introduced in the USA in 1990 on the 750iL and has continued on as other technology has been introduced like:

I got a quote at my parts supplier that Sachs make a sport suspension set for EDC, auto-leveling 5er. The best parts is it cost less than OEM parts. Any one have this installed, comment?
