Hi everybody Has anyone changed the rear speaker of a 1996 bmw 328ic convertible. And if you did I mean the big speaker the size is maybe 5inc or so I am not sure. Its the standard size that comes with the bmw not harmon Kardon or bose just the regular speaker. I would like to buy a new one but I dont know how to get to it. Thanks for the help in Advance.
can we get the above post removed?
or put in a new thread?

Not true, it is (well should be) the -3dB cutoff point. The -12dB point is usually used by some loudspeaker manufacturers to make it appear that their speakers will go lower than others. Ever see ads that say:"This sub can go as low as 20Hz! (At -12dB *cough*) It's not a standard measurement.
I undertand the clipping ,blah blah but at least if you adjust the amps when the head unit is basically all the way up at lest morons can';t turn it up any farther then it is set at the amps

Does anyone have any experience with tuning the CD43 with amplifiers? I count 48 clicks to max volume but it is difficult to tell when the HU begins sending a clipped or distorted signal to my LOC & amps. I am using AudioControl's LC6 for LOC.
Hello,
Is this for BMW original amp only or in general. Also, I will appreciate one advice. I have a sony subwoofer (12 inches). I just need an amp to install it in my car. Any recommendations? Is it a good idea to install it? or it will just put in a lot of base and destroy the balance? If yes, then which amp will be reasonable and easy to install?
Thank you
umermariner
This is for an aftermarket amplifier. The OEM amp is not "tunable" in this fashion.

Truth is, great sound is in the ear of the listener. I haven't found many people who like as much bass as I do. If you can't feel all the bass notes, it ain't good sound to me. I guess that comes from years of playing bass in several bands and playing all kinds of music. If you don't want a good massage from the bass, don't ride with me.
HERE IS YOUR ANSWER.
Distortion is a sign that you are overdriving your speaker.
When you hear distortion,it means the magnet has no longer the ability to control the coil percisly.
When that is happening, that means the the coil is also heating up and most likely turning red like your cigarette lighter.
Sometimes the coil will burn 1 winding and the speaker will die.Sometimes it will play distorted for a long time before it gets hot enought to burn the coil to death
The more distortion there is,the more heat yuor generating because that is basicly the limit of the speaker.
You will smell band aids as a warning.Shortly after it will die.
Distortion per say, dont cause the speaker to overheat.
The actual Killer is the power that is being pushed into that it can not control or dicipate.
Its not like distortion will make the coil bounce side to side and hit the windings.
One more thing I would like to add is about amplifier gain/sensitivity
If you have adjusted your amps as stated above, then you prly experienced some blown amps after time.Although I have done it that way for 20+years,its not the smartest thing to do.
The best way to adjust your gain is to measure your output of the Rca in your headunit
Then adjust your input sensitivity accordingly, because thats what it is.
An input gain or sensitivity Switch is
Made to boost low signals
And
And regulate high ones.
WHat about line drivers and epi centers you ask? They boost Db and Hz not Mv/milivolts
or V/Voltage
The best step by step instructions would be to google
JL audio 1000/1 intstall manual.
It has pics and step by step instructions.
In closing
If you eat fries and you dont feel them inside you travel from the top of your throat to the point where they drop into your stomach, then you havent experinced bass. I miss that!

What about the bass and treeble at the head unit when checking for distortion at the interior speakers? Also, what about the bass boost at the amp while adjusting gain and checking distortion at the woofers? Should we do the gain first of the bass boost?
I just added a mono channel amp and using the stock amp for the speakers. I have no idea what is the corss over of the stock amp is for all the original speakers, tweeters and midbass. Can I or should I modify it too? Where should i keep the corss over of the new amp for the woofers?
Thanks

I added a Rockford fozgate mono amp to my stock system also with 2 600w 10" subs . And I have a Kenwood head unit with the sub output running my added sub. I'm totally lost on adjusting this??
Also I have a stock amp and the Harmon Karmen amp what one is better?
does one have more channels then the other? the stock show 10/35W 10 channels? the karmon shows nothing

let's toss this one in the bin...
or the first post should include the following
1:
2: http://www.bcae1.com/
3: Google search DMM gain setting.
and distortion does not kill speakers... otherwise most modern music would cause speakers to spontaneously combust.
this thread is neither fish nor fowl... why is it even stickied?
serves no use for experienced people and is over the heads of rookies.
if he feels it is a great writeup he can put it on his website and/or we'll include a link in the useful links sticky to it here... it does not need to be stickied in this forum... especially as poorly written and technically inaccurate as it is.

Do you have encountered such situations:Have many of DVDs,especially some favorite, however you don't know how to enjoy them on your portable devices or other hard disc.Such as on iPhone, iPhone 3G, Sony PSP, PS3, YouTube (web), iRiver PMP, Archos and PMPs;And also don't know how to share them on the Youtube, myspace etc.
Well before I also met these issues, through my friends recommended,I knew the powerful DVD Ripper for Mac.This kind of conversion software can help you solve above problems. In addition
to this,It provides you a series of powerful and easy to use movie edit functions such as triming, cropping frame size, merging, adjustin effect, choosing subtitle, etc.
So if you have the same trouble,I really hope my recommendation can help you.
The nasty noise created by amp clipping will fry a speaker in a second. MO' POWA' PLEASE!!
I have an adjustable line output converter, amp, and my sub. How do i know what to set the line output converter to?
thanks for the writeup, it really came in handy
