The disc hasn't been copied properly, or is a disc that isn't recognised by the system. E39's need the red discs. Make sure it's a red one.

With the Nav disks, there are purple, green and red one's. Purple is for the new X5's, Z4's etc, red is for E39's, E53's etc. You need the red one, but unfortunately they are also te rarest and dearest! Just see how you go. If you're using a burned copy (God forbid ), you need to make sure it's a red one, but then you'll need to trust the guy who gave it to you. If you're using an original, the label on the disc is mainly red. And it will say E39 version.

I didnt get one with the car and tried the disc from my Z4 on it.
I then picked up a 2nd hand guard liner extension from BM dealer who tried current version which of course didnt work.
Might have to pucker up and let the dealer tamper with me.

I think you can find copies of the CD on eBay. They are not legit, but they are a hell of a lot cheaper, as well of other methods of getting it...

What is this business of red disk vs purple disk vs green. I just got the brand new edition of the cd set for my dads 2002 540i and I have had no issues loading any of the CDs. Just curious to what is red the label on the top of the cd is white on the 2011 edition.

oh wait nevermind the australian ones are red i was thinking they all were supposed to be

I just got quoted $412.00 or my trade price $335.00 thru the stealer here in Darwin.
    Order thru Germany too.
MIGHT BE I WAIT AS YOU SUGGEST
I have a burning curiosity to know if the system even works.
But at 335 dollars I will wait and keep an eye on eBay.
    Thankyou

I think I have the same issue with my 2003 and am curious if you ever found a "red" disk or if you were able to correct this issue? Ive found other threads that seem to indicate this could also be an issue with the laser, clearly finding a disc on ebay would be an 'easy' first option..?

Everyone on this forum in Aus needs a red disk, they are the only one's that will work with an E39. They are also the rarest and most expensive. I have a purple one lying around, but it doesn't work in E39's, just E70's, Z4's etc...

still trolling ebay for a red disc.
I initially thought problem with the laser reading but have to eliminate the mystery of the red disc 1st.
