How many speakers does my car have?

    Hey guys,

I know this quesiton probably makes me sound like a complete idiot, so I'm sorry. Anyway, I've read that my 97 328i had 6 and 10 speaker sound systems, how do I determine which is in my car? Also, what's the difference? Is there an external amp in my car somewhere?

    Thanks a lot!

You have a 10 speaker set up. There's a 5.25 mid in each kick panel up front, and a 3" mid and a .75" tweeter in each front door - 6 total in front.

In the rear, there's a speaker pod on each side mounted under the rear deck that has a 4" mid and .75" tweeter in each - 4 total in the rear.

The external amp is mounted in the trunk behind the carpetted panel on the driver's side just to the rear of the shock tower.

    Welcome aboard .

Wow, thanks for the quick and helpful reply!

One more question for ya, If I wanted to add just a head unit for now would that work in conjunction with the stock external amp until I upgraded some more?

    Thanks

Yes. Use the "search" feature on this forum and you'll find many threads talking about various ways to upgrade your system.

Should be the same. Look in the locations mentioned and count them.

Different people have different goals and budgets. For example, if you only wanted to add some bass (the BMW bass is nonexistant) to augment the stock sound, you might just add a sub with an amp t power it. The front speakers are going to have the biggest influence on the overall sound quality, so that's one of the more frequent upgrades. Some people just want to replace the HU to get a CD player.

The more you replace, the more it's going to cost, but the better the overall result will be.
