Went to the ricer style, Trax event on Sunday at Silverstone (home of the British Grand Prix) - not to look at the riced up cars and nasty women, but because it is the cheapest possible way to get on the track at Silverstone! £25 for a 20 minute session on the weekend is amazing value compared with the usual £300 per day or so midweek events they hold.
I was delighted to see that they had the full 3.3mile GP circuit open so I got a good chance to see what the Schnitzer was made of!
'Wow' is all I can say really – in the first 20 minute session I was stuck at the back due to forgetting my licence and waiting for the other half to fax it over, so Iused it as a sighting session really – although Silverstone is a track I have always wanted to drive, it wasn't overly impress TBH - it has quite a few tricky corners, but it is so wide and flat it is hard to see where the road goes, and it is more a test of nerves than skill.
Second session I made sure I was at the front, and once the pace car went in I didn’t see another car for about 10 minutes which was just superb!
I had a scary moment at Becketts when I forget it went left and right twice, and ended up rather sideways at about 75 – luckily the car pulled itself straight and I made a mental note to back off next time!
Final session I got to the front again, but was followed into the pits by a Ford Saloon Series car – widearch Mk2 escort on Formula Rs, 220bhp, cage , harnesses etc etc – a proper racecar! I suggested he should pass me on the sighting lap so I didn’t slow him down, but he declined, and once the pace car pulled in, he didn’t see me for dust!!! I had a clear road again for about 10 minutes, and then lapped 8 cars!
I really cannot believe how easy the Schnitzer is to drive quickly, especially compared with my ‘track spec’ GT – it just inspires confidence and always feels like there is plenty in reserve – I was pushed wide at 110+ on the start/finish straight and put two wheels onto the grass, about 3m from the wall, but again, the car just helped me back onto the track!
If you can’t tell, I am loving it!!!

Thanks guys - that is a great shot I agree - that is the spot where I put two wheels on the grass and started praying!!
I have another day booked at Rockingham in 2 weeks (the first US style banked oval in the UK) which uses one of the banked corners and a very technical infield and I can't wait!
A few people were saying that I am crazy using such a rare car on the track, but surely that is what it was built for?!!
