I recently got my E23 running after it had stood since 93, I have been driving it for the past week without any issues but this morning while I was driving to work(1 hour drive) the car intermittently shut off 3 times within the first 10-15 minutes and then it ran around 40 minutes without shutting off, then it shut off once again before I arrived at my work. It doesn’t run hot or such, all gauges except the speedo work. Does anyone here have any idea of what it could be?
could be a million things after sitting for that long.
did it shut down completely? no power, no starter, no gauge response, no lights etc? or did the engine alone die, with power, lights etc still available?
just saying the car dies doesn't give us the full picture of what happens when it fails.
All other power stays on, just the engine dies for like a second, if it dies i can put the car in neutral and just restart it immediately, sometimes it just shuts of for a micro second so the rpm dips to 1k then starts again. Only thing I have noticed is that the economy gauge drops to zero while it happens
few possibilities include bad cps, failing fuel pumps, poor main relay, bad fuel pump relay, failing dme and a bunch of other stuff.
I don’t think it’s something fuel related since I have put on a new fuel pump, new fuel filter, cleaned the fuel tank, cleaned all the injectors, checked so the FPR works properly etc, also has new spark plugs, distributor cap + rotor. Also if it was fuel related I feel like it would take longer to start after it dies, since it just starts without hesitation after dying. Could it be the ignition coil or bad connection somewhere?
