Please don't laugh but I have a 2018 40e and I have a question. On.my days off I often make a short trip into town and use up all my battery (the range is quite low). I come home and am not sure when I might go out again sometimes a couple hours sometimes on for 6 hours. I charge at 115v and get about 15% of my charge per hour. Am I better of to not even charge and use the electric if quite often I will be charging it from about 10% to only 20 iir 30 percent before I use it again. I understand they have a memory and like to be charged from dead to full in one single session.
Also: I heard from the BMW genius at the shop at the dealership I sometimes visit that the if the battery goes dead on these old plug in hybrids that it can cause you to not pass emissions. Is there any validity to that statement?
I have no choice but to live with the car but what a silly idea it is to be lugging around over 200 lbs of battery for a paltry 14 miles of electric range. I does have pretty good power when you floor it though.
Modern lithium-ion batteries do not suffer from the "memory effect" like older batteries, so charging from partial states (e.g. 10% to 30%) should not be a problem.here
