Hi
I'm new to BMW and this forum. I inherited a 1988 325i convertible and I'm just checking things out. One problem I've discovered is that the drivers side wiper arm doesn't move. passenger side works. I'm assuming that either something in the transmission linkage has stripped or broken. How tough a job is it to replace or repair the wiper trans linkage and are there any step by step directions of the procedure.
Thanks Jeff
yes. check at the wiper gear first. if that is tight and not stripped, and you still only have the one wiper ... may god have mercy on your soul.
first, get a bentley repair manual, then watch as many vids and read as much as you can on it. i'd rather pull an engine and tranny than deal with that.
the front cowl between the windshield and engine bay has to come off. it's the same as you need to do to pull the heater box from the firewall side.
thanks for your response. I guess I got lucky. As per your suggestion I checked the nut that holds the arm in place. It was loose. I repositioned the arm and tightened it. It seems to be working fine now. Would a drop of blue loctite be a good Idea?
me too. i was wondering if the nut was loose at the arm base and hoping thats all it was. if it was stripped, that would have been a huge bummer

Thank you guys I appreciate your help I love how these forums help each other out I'm on a couple other car forums and everybody seems to really be there for each other so with that said can I ask another question in my 1988 325i there's a check light that's flashing in the dash as soon as a check engine light how do you read a code on that My local parts house code reader doesn't go back that far thanks for any help I saw a test on YouTube they called it the stomp test they were doing it with an automatic car mine's a stick they said put it in neutral and stop five times within 10 seconds but doesn't seem to affect mine
I want to say there is a paper clup trick you do in the larger test plug by the intake, driver's side of the bay.
Its been a number of years since i have though about it though so see if google brings anything up for e30 paperclip code
