325e Stalls at Full Throttle After Replacing TPS

I recently replaced the TPS on our 325e due to rough running, stalling and poor fuel mileage.

Those problems seem to be gone now, except for the stalling which occurs only when the gas pedal is nearly floored.

I adjusted the new TPS per instructions using an ohmmeter and listening for the switch to "click" near both extremities of travel.

Is it not supposed to be adjusted to click at the wide-open end of its travel, and that is why it is stalling at WOT? Why then would the designer make it click in that position at all?

Someone please tell me what I am not understanding and what I have done wrong.

    Jeff

I believe it’s supposed to click as soon as you open the throttle at all not when it’s wide open

Thanks, Cameron. Is there any service literature that discusses that?

I’ll take a look in my Bentley and get back to you but I think there’s some videos on YouTube that kinda give a tutorial on how to set it

test for tps on an auto may be slightly different. many autos had a 4 pin tps. some do not. also make sure to test for continuity with the battery disconnected as it's easy to fry the ecu testing the tps.

the bentley should have the correct procedure. the common advice found in the forums is centered on a manual i car with a 3 pin tps.

Great info; thanks, eye. I didn't count the pins in the new TPS, but I think that I noted that each one connected to a corresponding tip in the harness. I'm sure I'll need to disassemble it all again, so I will make a note of pin counts at that time.
