Hi all,
as the title says I'm new here and new to owning a 2002. I just got a 74' 2002, not really sure about its history but I do know it does have a few mods done to it. I'm trying to do some research online and figure out which tires to go with and I think I mostly have it narrowed down, but I'm wanting some advice and input from you guys who have hopefully had some history and some experience with the tires that I'm thinking about. It has 14" rims on it now and some really bad cheap tires on it that I want to replace with either 1. Pirelli Centurato 185/70 R 14, or the Michelin XAS, but also have been reading some about the Michelin XDX-B as another classic tire, but I believe that one only comes in 13". The car isn't original but I'd like to slowly over time return it to a mostly original state. But any input from you guys about which tires would be better would be greatly appreciated.
Car info and Mods to help you with the tire question if it helps.
1974 BMW 2002, came from the LA area, is white with the BMW M colored checkered flag sticker on the front and rear corners, Weber Carb, 5 Speed. I believe it maybe also have some Koogleworks and Ireland Engineering parts on it as well as it has those stickers along with Eibach springs sticker on it as well. I just got it 2 days ago and haven't had a chance to really look over it to figure out every part that has been changed but that's some of what I know about it. Again, any help is appreciated.
Many like the reissued Pirelli, but you should realize it’s a high performance summer tire (not good for winter). Others like the XAS.
Welcome to the 02 family! Lee, this forum ain’t that great for 02s, you should head over to the world’s best 2002 site: BMW2002FAQ.com - more 02ers, more knowledge, more resources…
Thanks visionaut. I'll look there too. Just hoping to hear some first hand info from people who have used either one of the tires, or hopefully both to give me some honest feedback on the pros and cons of each one of them.
