Ashtray does not close

Hello, i recently picked up a e34 525i from 1991. Car is very clean, original from spain, so no rust at all . However this ashtray has been bugging me. It won’t close fully, and i struggle to find any DIY, do i have to remove the climate or center console?

I've checked the guide, but i found the Bentley repair manual late yesterday, so i will see if i can proceed further today
