    Rear window motor

    Hi;

    89 e30 sedan and the rear window's not working. I've got an e24 and just sorted out the windows on that, but the rear window on this E30 is kicking my butt. I've jumped the console switch that cuts out the rear windows so I know it's not that. I've searched and come up short.

    What is the trick for removing the motor on either one of the rear doors? If there's a handy thread I've missed, I'd be happy if someone could point it out, or just a quick sanity check here would be fine too.

    Thanks!

    check the rubber accordian between the door and b pillar first. the wires for the motor run through it. that is often where a break occurs. otherwise, it's a simple matter to pull the door card and window motor for replacement.

    Thanks, I've already confirmed that I'm getting good power with a voltmeter.
    This is the rear door on a sedan, and I'm not seeing the simple matter in pulling the motor unfortunately. There are three bolts holding the motor but it looks like there's also a couple of torx screws holding the assembly in.

    I might be able to pull the motor off the gearbox with the two torx holding it on but it also seems overly awkward.

    This is why I was looking for potential tips on getting the motor out.

    leave the gearbox in and just drop the motor out. the motor drops out after removing 2 torx nuts. undo the motor and leave it plugged in to test. if it works the issue could be in the tracks or regulator.

    with the motor out and gearbox in move the widow up and down by hand. if it doesn't move easily there could be a problem with the gearbox or regulator, which will require further removal to fix.

    you can take the motors apart and refurb them if they are not too bad.

    I pulled the motor alone and things seemed to move well, and the motor spun briskly under power too. I ended up loosening the gearbox as well and lubricating the tracks a bit. I'll reassemble and see how things operate in a little bit. Thanks for the coaching, this job is more tedious than difficult. The next one will probably be easier. I hope.
