this helped out a lot. Im almost done with stage one of the restoration. Im about to hang up the exhaust and plug in a few more components. I surprised even myself and cleaned out the heater core. Only two dead mice were found. Its back in and installed to the coolant system!! Laid some carpet down, nothing special and I did my best to restore the driver seat Full opsho treatment, enzyme treatment, Clorax treatment and now sitting in arm and hammer carpet cleaner. smells great now. New ECU and the ICV unit. Still not ICV. I just keep scoring discounts on parts geeks. the ECU was 800 dollars last year and i got it for 240 3 months ago.
Waiting on some hangers and also my crossover pipe for the gas tank. Hope i can have her running for everyone in the next few weeks~~~~~~~~
Next steps if everything goes well
All NEW sensors. I mean all of them
Repair Wire harness wires to fuel injectors
New fuel injectors
Brake overhaul
New car lift
dry ice machine
engine lift
So it still cranks but i cant get fuel to the rails. I did the test inside the haynes and another manual and both of them tell me to jump the two lower pins to run the motor. Well the exact opposite pins run the pump. Not sure why that is. Either way now that i got fuel to the rails, before i start the car {i doubt it will}.
I for the life of me can not find a replacement relay. Theres tons of relays and all the ones I find for a 1987 BMW 325ES are 5 prong and multipurpose. I want to replace them all but how do i know im getting the right ones. Not to mention that the relay i have in it slot 2 has pins 30 and 87 in the spots where the manual says. Which doesnt effect the pump. But tunersport has one with pins 30 and 87 in those spots yet i cannot confirm of that one picture and an angle is the exact product. I just need those 3 relays new, reliably
Ok so after countless web search's and using a magnifier with my bentley manual i came across these two 4 prong relays. bosch 0332014456 from the bentley manual which bring up a ton of replacements when search and pins out match. And bosch 0332014453 which is almost all my other relays and my oxygen relay. ALL HAVE PINS OUTS 30 and 87 opposite of what the haynes manual says to jump. Using the fog light relay i was able to jump the circuit with the top off and all my pumps run. Gonna attempt to start it tomorrow morning
The pinout for most of my relays and the replacements
THE RELAY THAT WAS IN SLOT 2 DOES NOT HAVE THIS PINOUT. Not sure wtf the people before were doing jesus
that's super odd. are you sure you were facing it the right direction?
every relay on my e30 is exactly what the bentley listed it as. same as every other e30 i've seen or worked on. they never made them different.
Yes i can confirm that my relay is turned around 180* as the One pin that is perpendicular to the other the three is facing the engine. Just about to attempt a start.

No spark now, and the pumps arent turning on when i crank it. So i think im not getting signals to my ignition system.
Ok so i just got her running and it was stable for about 5 minutes before i turned it off. Confirmed the my Fuel Pump relay is turned 180* to what most e30s have setup. The relay from the fog lights works manually and also is engaged while the car is running. I primed the fuel lines for about 10 seconds till the fuel came out from the pressure regulator. Then attempted to start it and it worked!!!
SOOOOOO If we got back to the title of my post. MY FUEL PUMP RELAY WAS NOT THE CORRECT RELAY. you need pins 87 and 30 in one corner and 87 must be perpendicular to the rest of the pins. I did hook up the cruise control and another wire set as well but i dont think they contributed to it not starting!!!!
Its back to not starting, it will start then die right away. exact same issue as before.
Once i primed the rails, it runs for almost 5 minutes
Turn it off, started it later then dies after a minute.
Starts and dies right away now, full tank
I actually did a pressure test and a flow test and it seemed ok when the pumps were on.
BUT i was using a relay that wasnt good. I swapped in another BOSCH relay that had a plastic cover. AND Shes back running again.
Adjusted the idle control valve and she idles at 800 rpm's NO PROBLEM!!!! Pumps turn on right away as there werent before in both relays. Fuel sender wasnt reading so i took it out. shook it till i heard the little floater move and placed it back in, while also moving it up nd down to let the fuel move the floater, Reads a FULL TANK. Feels so good NGL
BIG THANK YOU TO 82eye and anyone else who kept me going with troubleshooting and rooting out possible defects!!!!
