Interested in buying a low-mileage 2016 M4 with competition package and 6MT. All around, the car looks very well kept but oddly enough this seam on the driver seat looks like it’s seen 200k miles.
Is this common on the F80/F82 comp seat? Can I just unclip the seat cover and send it off somewhere for repair? Is it even repairable? Trying to stay away from fillers, paints and dyes if possible and I haven't found a whole red comp seat for sale anywhere. Unfortunately, someone in its past has tried repairing it and only made it worse, as the story usually goes.
Thanks!

Issues with the driver's seat seam can be common on high-performance cars like the M4, especially if the previous owner used it aggressively. Repairing the seat can be an option, but at that point I’m not sure if a repair will change how it already looks. You may want consult a professional auto or BMW upholstery specialist to assess the extent of the damage. They should be able to give you guidance on whether the seat cover can be unclipped and repaired without resorting to fillers, paints, or dyes.
I had this same issue on my e36 not quite as severe but the holes were starting to stretch slightly, lucky for you BMW still sells the leather backrest covers for your M4, on my ‘98 M3 they were NLA. If you wanted it to look perfect and brand new again, I would recommend a replacement.
From what it looks like from your photos the color is sakhir-orange with merino leather and I’m not sure if it is merino or not or pre-LCI or LCI. If it is a pre-LCI with merino leather the PN# you’d need is either: 52108058274 or 52108058275, depending if it is the drivers side or passenger side.
I hope you can get it fixed or replaced the way you want, best of luck!

You may want to check those part numbers with the BMW dealership.
Best of luck!
@Azpups01 Thank you for the reply! I had no idea BMW still carries seat covers. The M4 is pre-LCI Austin Yellow model with leatherette seats and the seat of discussion is the driver side. The competition seats have those two cutouts in the backrest similar to the G-series carbon bucket seats.
How did you find those part numbers? I haven’t had much luck finding seat components on any online catalog. I’m leaning more towards cover replacement since the rest of the interior is nearly perfect.
Thanks again!

No problem! Thank you for the additional information! I found the part numbers through BMW parts catalogs, realoem.com. Since your M4 is pre-LCI with leatherette seats and unique competition seats, it might be a bit a bit more challenging to find specific part numbers. However, those part numbers should be a match for at least the general seat with the cutouts. The color, type of leather, and competition seats I’m not sure if I got right, since it was just based on your photo. I guessed that they were the sports seats in SAKHIRORANGE with Merino leather, when you say it’s an Austin yellow model do you mean the exterior or the color of the interior?
If I had the last 7 of your vin I might be able to get a more exact part number.
It’s great to hear that the rest of your interior is in excellent condition, and a cover replacement could be a is a great way to restore the driver’s seat. I want to clarify these aren’t seat covers that go over the existing leather, these seat covers are a direct replacement for the leather that’s currently on them, meaning the current damaged leather would be removed and then replaced with a brand new piece of leather. I’d recommend getting in touch with a BMW dealership, local BMW shop, or professional auto upholstery BMW specialist to discuss the replacement process and ensure a precise fit for your unique competition seats.
The lower bolster if it is Sakhir orange should be 52108058270
However, the part you need I believe is 52108058275, Leather Backrest Cover - Left - Sport - Sakhir Orange. I believe the Left implies the driver's side.
I would call your local BMW dealer to confirm the correct part number.
I hope this helps!
@azpups01 I appreciate you looking into this! RealOEM is a great site I didn’t even know existed. It looks like 52108058275should be the right PN but I also reached out to my dealer this morning so I can see what they come back with. Overall, $1500 isn’t bad to bring the interior up to 100% from 95. Brand new OEM steering wheel comes in today too as the old one was cracked and UV-faded, BMW interiors have always been harder to keep up with.
I’ll post the PN I get from the dealership just to confirm. Thanks again!

Yeah, I’ll love looking through the retrofits, I got the M-style G30 dead pedal, gas, & brake pedal for my M3. You can see just about every part that was put or used on a certain bmw.
Yeah I knew it had to be one of the two P/Ns, I’ve asked bmw about the site and they don’t acknowledge the existence of the site. Yeah I know what you mean, I ordered a new center console button cluster cause I got winded underneath it a delaminated some of the black in my 7-series.
Oh nice! Yeah I know what you mean a lot of stuff would go wrong in my e36 m3, until it became to much to restore, it was $20k for a new engine and $5k for a new transmission. I decided just to upgrade to a newer M3 eventually.
I could give you the steering wheel upgrades available if you haven’t got it already.
