328d F31 Any Changes To Diesel Powertrain During Model Years?

It's proving to be hard to find concrete information. When I do search, I get flooded with European info, especially from the UK.

IIRC 2015 was dieselgate. Did BMW make any changes to the 328d between 2012-2018?

Any guidance on what years to look for?

I've found a 2015, but I'd prefer less miles. The lowest I've found with good options is 80k. So I was thinking of looking at LCIs.

There were no changes to the engine and transmission on the 328d between the model years 2014-2018, as these engines all passed emissions tests without cheating - due to aggressive aftertreatment (DEF fluid). Firmware calibration is the same.

The only difference in drivetrain between LCI and pre-LCI was the transfer case on xDrives which had come with the rubber guibo instead of the aluminum one. Then BMW had put a recall for the pre-LCI to have the rubber giubo as well, to protect the transfer case output flange. It essentially solved the issues. Most, if not all, the pre LCIs will have new transfer cases and rubber giubos by now, which is actually a +1 for pre-LCI.

LCI does tend to have available LED headlights, different tail lights, and may come with a nicer idrive unit (NBT Evo, if optionally equipped)

    Awesome thanks for responding!

The transfer case fiasco has scared me on these. Good to know what to look out for.

We definitely love our 2014 F31 328d, owned since 2017. It has been one of the best cars to own. They're not too complicated, but then again, I do know mine like the back of my hand.
