hi,
i swapped my '96 328is engine (220k) that had a blown head gasket and was eating oil to a '96 328i sedan (180k) that ran and drove well.
my coupe was an auto car (that i manual swapped), the sedan was manual.
i swapped the engine, used my coupe harness (with auto trans ecu). battery is fully charged, engine cranks over but i do Not have spark. i plugged in my obd II scanner and it says it cant communicate with the ecu....
i have the harness ground on the passenger side strut tower and i have the passenger side engine mount to the chassis. it's an obd ii car so there's no ground on the vanos oil unit.
the 2 or 3 grounds on the coil packs are all ON and tight.
what other grounds are there / should i look for ?
I believe there is a ground near the stock air box. Check the b+ jump post, confirm there is +12v at all of the red wires under it. Its common for people to put the 12v wires under the jump post in the wrong locations and that will trip the fusible link on the smaller of the two red wires leaving the battery.
