I am giving up, somewhere in the troubleshooting the compressor stopped doing anything.
The clutch kicks on, but its not turning the compressor at all so its probably seized up.
So I'm going to order a replacement... but which one?

I'm going to order a new one, but wasn't there multiple options for compressors on these cars?
I seem to remember something like that.

White is Right, Steel Grey is OK, but Estoril is the only color that truly matters.
I like Coupes.
The M54 cars used the E46 Seiki compressor. All others used the E36. As far as I have observed, anyway.

The brand, model and Part number will be on the compressor...I replaced mine about two years ago. I remember I had to clean off layers of dirt on it to see the information. Mine was a Seiki model#SS120DL part# 64528386650
Easier than that. The E36 Denso has the mounting bolts longitudinal, as pictured. The E46 Seiki has the mounting bolts transverse.
And I remembered what is kinda unique about the M54 Seiki. While it is a common fitment in Europe, it is used only on the Z3 in the US market. If mine ever dies, I'm going to look into using a standard E46 compressor, mount if needed, and make custom hoses.
