Bought a new motor for TAZ

Like the title says, I just received "new" used M52TUB28 engine for TAZ.
The engine was purchased from Schmiedmann Denmark and has 214000 km or 133000 miles. It's almost complete, but as the seller is a swine, TB, alternator, power steering pump, and AC compressor are missing.
    The price was 920$ + 130$ delivery
I briefly checked the engine, and it appears in good shape, I couldn't rotate it and could look in all cylinders, but the ones I could were ok.
Pistons were also not badly covered in carbon deposits
All 6 spark plugs we consistently black.
My camera is not the best, but it did the job.
Valve cover seems it has never been removed.
I plan on refreshing the engine with new gaskets, ccv, sensors, and the things that are known to fail and then swap it.
I just have to figure out where to do the swap, as my garage is almost big enough for an unicycle.

    Here are some pics

What was wrong with your original engine?
    Too many miles?

    2.0 L , 150 hp, 380000km
Runs smooth as butter, it's underpowered, tops at 205km/h ( 210 factory speed)

I don't think they are "swine" for removing the accessories, it's fairly typical to do that - most times you buy an engine like that, you are replacing your bad engine, so will just swap over those accessories. In any case, all your original stuff should work including TB

And at least here in the US, particularly my extremely hot environment, an original VCG would have cracked "donuts" under the perimeter nuts. They look brand new in your picture. Worth replacing anyways but the photos make them look pretty fresh

Does seem to be running rich or burning oil though. Definitely will want to check the condition of the CCV

Yes, it's typical to remove parts, but don't advertise the engine as complete. Those will be changed anyway, all gaskets, hoses, pulleys, tensioners, and so on.

Looks complete to me. Alternator and other ancillaries are not part of the engine. The transmission is also attached, did you expect that too?
Agree with comments about the plugs. Looks pig rich, not oil from here. Bad vacuum leaks can cause over fueling.
It would be prudent to re-seal the entire engine before installing. You'll also have the opportunity to examine the internals.
    Good luck.

If the engine already out, swap to manual? Congrats on the upgrade!

    Thank you.
No, I use the car for long cross Europe trips, like to Poland and Romania, and I like it automatic for the comfort. If I could find one, I would retrofit the adaptive cruise control from the e38, for more comfort, but they're incredibly rare and expensive.
I will post all the progress here.
I plan on refreshing the headliner and pillars in black. I need to find a good set of black sun visors and all the other hardware needed for an all black interior.

Adaptive cruise control???like where your car can break by itself to keep a distance from a car in front of it?
I've never ever heard of such a thing but that'd be wild for early 2000s!
I'd definitely be interested in a retrofit lol

I had Acc and queue assist( from 0-30 km/h and worked above 30km/h also) on my '21 Iveco Daily. I loved them.

yeah, also did some research on it. Its a really tough retrofit that nobody seems to have tried before. Difficult to obtain EOM parts (literally like trying to obtain the factory backup camera for an E39.. still looking for this one), wiring, coding plus no E39 body parts that could even accept the components. The only good news was that my instrument cluster had the acc icon already. If there had been even one DIY out there I might have gone for it though. Its exactly the stuff I like to do: retrofit factory tech.

There is one on a Russian forum, for the e38. The cluster is also different, has Led's above the speed nr that light up when the acc is engaged.
    This is the link.
