I recently rebuilt the ZF 5HP19 auto transmission for my e46 touring. I have rebuilt this type of transmission before.
It ran great from Feb1 to the end of April, but when I left it for a week at a garage, it started to squeal like a bad pulley. Video below. Since then I noticed a leak, so I re-replace the pump seal and the washers for the intermediate plate screws. I have also checked level and fill a few times, including draining out what appeared to be an overfill. Now it is filled appropriately (at 50 degrees C), and still the noises.

Follow-up: it was the starter pinion failing to retract
