I purchase a new set of Sachs upper strut bearings. I installed them and there was a clunking noise coming from the passenger side. I removed the strut again and dis-assembled the unit. There seems to be a significant amount of play in the strut bearing. I removed the strut and spring and then assembled the bearing upper spring mount and the appropriate washers to the strut without the spring. The spring pan is is tight and has no play, but the strut bearing wobbles from side to side and there is axial play in the bearing. Is this normal? I have done struts before and never noticed this before. Also the bore of the strut bearing is larger than the diameter of the strut (also Sachs). Any ideas? Has anyone run into this before?
Wrong upper strut bearings methinks. Sounds like NOS that was boxed wrong. I have a pair of OEM negative camber offset upper strut bushings that are very good condition and now NLA?
