    Considering a 2015 535d xDrive with 87,000 miles

    Guys,

First post on this forum, and it is a request for your knowledge.

I have found a 2015 535d xDrive that has lived its life in MA, NJ, and PA. The Carfax shows it has been well maintained by its 3 previous owners, no accidents, and looking at the car, there are no door dings anywhere and no rock chips on the hood. Having lived in NH for 7 years, I am suspicious of the near pristine quality of the car. I had a Subaru that lived in NH for a little over 2 years and a Toyota that lived there 5 years, and both rusted out when we moved to NC. This BMW is unbelievably nice outside.

I will go back to look at the car tomorrow and later in the week take it to a local BMW dealership for them to examine, including a compression test of the engine. Is there anything else I can do to make sure this is a good car? Thanks for your input.

Compression test would be excessive in this engine which is barely getting broken in at this mileage. These last hundreds of thousands of miles with normal upkeep. On a diesel especially, any deviation in compression will greatly affect starting, smooth running, and power delivery. Basically, it's very obvious.

Normally at that age, I'd only see some surface corrosion on some bolts on the suspension arms, but not much more. It sounds like the car was well taken care of.
A PPI is a good idea nonetheless. These are excellent cars, but always use quality diesel from a good station with high volume. Diesel stations with bad upkeep will often neglect their water separator/filters and give your diesel tank a nice surprise of water in it. As these weren't designed to process water, it can be quite catastrophic. Always use a good additive (Hot Shot Secret EDT for example) with every fuel up.

Where I have seen the surface corrosion is on the bolts above the suspension inside the engine bay on the driver's side. That is the ONLY place.

Perhaps but then why buy Xdrive.
Our OP is accustomed to watching a Japanese car corrode.
@OP have the car inspected by someone familiar with the breed. The car always speaks for itself, if re-painted an expert can tell.

    2011 5 series 535i 103k miles vs 2016 4 series 435i grand cuped 159k miles.
2011 535i 2011 tough and lots of parts available. 435i 2016 much more modern and only one owner.
