I have a question about the fitment of wheels on my E61 2010 535i xdrive Wagon. I have the stock Style 277 wheel that came with the car. Some sites say it is a 17 x 7.5 and some say its a 17 x 8 with an offset of ET43. Not sure which size it is and I can't look because the car is down in FL and I am in CO. My tire size is 225/50/17 . I am looking at a style 158 rim that is 17 x 8 with an offset of ET34. The tires on my car are like new so I was hoping to swap the rims out without purchasing tires. My questions is, is this possible or will these not fit on my car? I will eventually buy an 18 or 19 inch wheel for it when I need tires, but this might not be for some time as this car doesn't get driven much. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would also love to see what people have done with their E61 regarding wheels sizes so I can get an idea of what is possible.
Thanks
My 08 E61 535xi had 18x8 with 245/40 tires. I bought a set of the 17s for winter wheels. Somewhere I read that staggered wheels can affect the AWD. My understanding is that you want to keep the front to rear tire/wheel diameter the same or within about a percent of stock. So if you did stagger, you would drop the aspect ratio on the wider rear tires to get the same tire diameter as stock. You can look up tire specs online easily enough.
I don’t know the offsets. If anything you might want less offset to move the wheels outboard a little. But not enough to rub when loaded and going over bumps.
Great cars once sorted out. Most need a lot of maintenance at this point. Had mine for 10 years and gave it to a friend who still drives it. I still maintain it. Has 155k miles now. Beware clogged sunroof drains. There is a fix online - use the version that replaces the first part of the drain tubing with larger tubing.
Ran a JB4 on mine to wake it up a little. That was the only mod - my wife drove it.
