Typically generic mail orders will include either a handheld flash tuner with preloaded tunes or a K+DCAN cable with software to upload the tune only.
Real tuning is time intensive and requires significant experience. Better tuners will use data logging software to verify and tweak the tune. Ignition timing can be tuned with data logs on the street or dyno. Fueling requires an aftermarket wideband sensor and logs, either from the street or dyno. Most dyno shops have a wideband sensor that can be temporarily connected to the tailpipe. VANOS must be tuned on the dyno.
