2006 330i no crank no start

the nut for the neg. battery post was missing and naturally the car wouldnt run barely. i tighten up the negative post and it starts and runs alright. then no restart no crank. checked the relay, unplugged the ibs. the starter was recently replaced. any ideas out there..?

I would look at the starter. Is it a new starter? Refurb? Used? I had the same issue on my E34. No crank, no start. I looked at everything. I even bypassed the EWS and still no start. I replaced the starter and started right up, however I replaced the starter with a used starter. Two days later, no crank, no start. I decided to purchase a new starter and no more issues. I'm not sure if your model has the inline fuse on the positive lead cable, near the battery. The older models had the fuse, but if you do have that fuse, you can check it to see if it's blown. That fuse is wrapped with a rubber casing or a plastic box. so you'll have to cut the casing, but don't cut the cable. There's a possibility that fuse could've blown, given the negative post wasn't securely fastened and could've had electrical surges. Those fuses can develop a hairline fracture and sometimes the current will flow through and sometimes it won't. Before digging for that fuse, check the starter first. Keep us updated.

because the neg post had no fastner i figured the battery dist. box fuse had burnt. it turns out that i had to push on the brake pedal harder. thankfully i only wasted 120 dollars.

Glad you figured it out. Sometimes the solution is in plain sight, but as humans we initially tend to analyze what's not in plain sight until every avenue is exhausted. Then something simple as pressing the brake pedal in a tad more solves the issue. I can't tell you how many times throughout the years I had this happen to me. Although I every time I want to lose my $h*t, I have come to accept it as experience and learning more about the item in fault. Now, I don't lose my $H*t anymore. I count to 10 and say WOOOO SAAAAA. LOL
