    Cost to damn much DME

Hi I recently just got my 2020 430I Gran Coupe back from the shop due to a blown DME I had to have a brand new one built by BMW and shipped to the States took 90 days due to logistics and Availability of materials so they claimed. I was running Boot Mod stage 2 when it all went sour, I have a catted DP and did a Muffler delete prior to install of Boot Mod. My question(s) Will uploading BM3 without a battery charger cause my DmE failure due too Voltage dropping below 14V while uploading my tunes? 2nd or could it stem from a faulty tune stemming from BM3? 3rd: did I just get lucky & have a bad Dme my coolant line burst and was repaired under warranty by Century BMW in Greenville sc, I want to reflash it back on but im now cautious and afraid of doing that bs again. I reside in the interior of SC I have access to NC & GA before and if i ever decide to put BM3 back on my Gran Coupe I want to dyno my car and was wondering if anyone know of any reputable dyno shop in any of the 3 above mentioned states who can tune this car properly my check engine light is on due to my car running rich and want this issue fixed. Thanks in advanced for the assistance to my questions

What exactly was bad with the original DME?

Was the car running with the original DME?

I use a power supply supply when flashing or programming. They aren’t cheap, at $200-400. Mine is an MST-80A if I remember correctly. Googling flashing or programming one of these newer complex ECU in a newer car with high battery drain rate will yield explanations of the importance of the power supply.

There is a reason tuners, including BM3, instruct you to use one. Probably, if you had, you would not have bricked your ECU. There may be some tuners who could have recovered it, but I am not sure. Going to a BMW dealer for help will, as you found out, result in a large bill.

Some people have used battery chargers. They can work but are not the same as a power supply. Some have also used battery boosters, but that may be even riskier.

    Crossposted here.
If it was just a flash failure, then I highly doubt the dme was bad. These DMEs are very very recoverable from just about anything. I flash hundreds and actually recover a bunch from failed BM3 flashes. BM3 can be buggy depending on setup. I haven't found once when it's not recoverable. Power supply is recommended, but it won't be the cause of failure here.

if you worry about parts costing too much then why are you messing with them?

Wait till he finds out that the new dealer DME is the 06/2020++ hardware and there's no real good way to unlock for tuning. In for bricking #2?

The initial fail could have been easily solved, but instead they took it to the dealer.
