Last year the plastic hose below the inlet manifold cracked. I replaced the hose and fit a new thermostat the same time. The vehicle drive OK and don't overheat. On short drives to the shop etc the temp goes to normal. When I switch the engine of you can hear the water is gurgling and then push the water out of the overflow tank. So now on short drives I always have to check the water level as the engine pushes the water out and I need to top up regularly, but not on long drives,
Is the screw-on radiator cap spring also damaged that it cannot handle the water pressure and needs replacing? The rubber seal still looks intact!
You have air in the system. There are lots of tests to figure out if one component is not working.

Did you watch menaces YouTube video on this? I found that to be useful in bleeding the air out. Not sure if this is the issue you're having
