Seat Belt Lock Releases on its Own

Good evening, I searched a bit on the forums but didn't come across this.

Both of the seat belt locks/receivers in my Z3 won't stay locked in place when buckled. It ranges from working properly for entire rides, to releasing on their own intermittently. Yesterday I had the driver side release seven times on its own on a drive of 15 minutes.

Oddly, I clip them in and pull hard to make sure they're locked and holding (which they do), but after I let go, they pop out on their own shortly after.

Is this a known issue? Any simple fixes? I saw a video for a different car showing someone spraying wd40 in it and clicking the unlocking button a bunch of times...but didnt want to do that without some guidance.

    Thank you!

I’d don’t know if it’s right, but I wrapped each buckle with a paper towel and just “hosed” the buckles with dry film spray. Wiped them down and worked the buttons and latched the buckles.
Ours would latch then pop out just like you describe. After the flushed and lubed they seem to be working well.

If you go with WD40 (a Water Displacement ) you need to add a lube after it drys. WD will clean any gunk out though.

Realized I never came back to this one. I did as stated above, wrapped the buckle up, sprayed dry lube I to the slots, clicked the buckle in and out probably 20 times, cleaned up residual spray, and it hasn't released since. Thanks!
