Hey there E38 family. Is there anyone here running Liqui Moly Motor Oil ???, And if so, What are ya'll running. I just recently purchased my 5th E38, This time a 2001 Shorty Sporty that just had the timing chains & guides done. So I am trying to prolong these guides as long as possible under my watch. This is my first M62Tü Motor ... lol
Pics to follow.

The trick to timing-chain guide longevity isn't the make of oil (well, as long as it is semi or fully synthetic), it is the intervals that you change it at. 10,000 miles and at least once a year and then you will be fine! Sreten (m539 restorations) uses Liquid Moly in his BMW engines - and he knows what he is talking about.....

I Loooooooooooooooooove me some Sreten ... lol. And it was for him, why i asked the question. but then again, I think he gets a lot of his Liqui Moly supply sponsored, but whatever. Still good stuff none the less.
Yes. I have been using Liqui Moly Leichtuf High Tech 5W-40 since I got my car in 2018. It's oil. It works. I am in the inland area of San Diego, so we easily get our share of 100+ temperatures in the summer, and the car has worked great on my family road trips to Palm Desert and Phoenix. The price for it has jumped over the last year. Last summer it was possible to get a 5 liter container of the oil from Amazon for around $37; now it is $52.
Wow long time no see! Welcome back![]()
I've been using Liqui Moly oil long before YT kicked off. I like their stuff, they started supporting the channel early on and we have a good relationship. Their product range is outrageous, from oil and all fluids to brake cleaner, detailing products, to hand paste to hand creme, etc... so I can basically stock up the entire shop with their stuff.
That being said, all premium oils are great. Motul, Shell, Redline, Mobile 1, Amsoil... they all make fantastic oils and saying one is better than the other is kinda pointless and irrelevant. Regular oil changes and proper warm-up of the engine are far more important than what brand of oil you'll use. Just get whatever is your preference and has a good price, and enjoy the car!
Yes he is. He is in between tapings.
Hey Sreten, love your channel! I would love to see you one day take in a facelift E38 M-Sport model and swap in a S62 engine in there and manual gearbox. But back to the current discussion. You have mentioned several times in your videos that you use 5W-50 weight synthetic oil in your ///M cars that have the S prefix engines. What brand of 5W-50 synthetic oil are you using because I don't think it is LiquidMoly, because their only 5W-50 oil available on the market is the Molygen brand which is green and the oil I have seen you pour into the engine is the standard, brown or caramel color. Just curious what other brand of oil you use.
Thanks!
