Could someone tell me where the DWS flat tire monitor module is located? As I understand there are 2 different modules, one that that compares wheel speed rotation based off ABS sensors and one that gets signal from tire pressure sensors. I am looking for the first one. Do E53s have them? I am finding conflicting info online.

Just an FYI: BMW changed the abbreviation of the tire monitoring system from DWS to RPA (or RDC). This may be helpful when searching for info on this topic.
The e53 X5 could have had either of two types of tire pressure monitoring systems. BMW has a direct system (RDC/TPM) & an indirect system (RPA/FTM). The direct system uses sensors in the tires that send data to a (RDC) control module. The indirect system uses the rotation of the wheel which is calculated by the wheel speed (ABS) sensors & DSC control module.
You wrote that you believe you have the indirect systemÂ…which means the wheel rotation data is sent to your DSC module. You can see in the chart below that the e53 models built before 4/04 used the direct RDC system & the ones built after 4/04 used the indirect RPA system. You never indicated a model yearÂ…but think you have the RPA/INDIRECT systemÂ…so your build date must fall AFTER 4/04:
