In an effort to streamline my fleet and give me fewer things to focus on car-wise, I’m selling my 850Ci.
I bought this one on a whim last Summer - a BaT purchase. This is my sixth E31 and each time, I’ve listed them here first when I decide to sell. Hoping to find a steward among the enthusiasts here.
Basic details on this one:
1993 850Ci
Automatic
64xxx miles
Orient Blue exterior (repaint in the original color)
Light Silver Grey interior
The car has lived its entire life in California and Utah. The previous owner used to live near a group of enthusiasts in NoCal, so many of you may have seen and/or touched this car in the past.
The list of items fixed or added by the previous owner include:
- CSi body kit added when it was repainted
- LED headlight conversion (this does make the lights flash when turned off)
- Performance chips - I was told they were custom coded by an enthusiast in the Bay area
- Rear control arm bushings
- Power steering hoses
- Replaced or rebuilt throttle bodies
- Valve cover breathers
- Fan clutch
- MAF sensor
- Refurbed OBC - perfect pixels
- Alcantara headliner
When I got it, there were several things that needed to be addressed for me to enjoy it.
Since I’ve had it, I’ve done the following:
- New rear tires to match the fronts (they were mixed brand before and the wrong size)
- Newly wrapped steering wheel
- New driver’s door gasket lower threshold
- New refreshed seat plastics
- New upper control arms - both sides
- New end links
- New Cocomats
- Touched up the front seats to deal with slight wear
- Bought new Wokke chips for it - uninstalled at this point
- Also have a set of new fuel pumps from Ed that’ll go with the car - no indication they are needed, just bought them to have them
- Converted to a single battery - really expensive one
- Switched back to a factory radio
My biggest issue with the 850 when it arrived was the paint. It had been well painted, but never finished - needed wet sanding and finishing. It took me a month to get through the whole thing, but the car now shows beautifully. Deep deep gloss.
In the original listing, the PO noted a few things that would need to be addressed:
- VCG leak
- Serpentine belt is due for replacement
- Oxygen sensors also due, but I’ve not seen any impact
- The airbag light stays illuminated
- Slightly loose A pillar on the driver’s side
As it stands, this is a lovely, low-mileage example. Smooth cruiser and looks the part. More pictures to come.
Asking $28k.

Update: happy to report I've found the new owner. Great guy, great collection of cool BMWs. Thanks to everyone who reached out.
