840 wipers park up instead of down

In my quest to find the water leak in my e31, I wanted to check out the area around the fresh air intake/cabin filters. To remove it, I turned the wipers on and turned the key off when they were in the up position. Once I put everything back together I turned the wipers on to complete the sweep and park. EXCEPT they sweep down and stop at the lowest point, but instead of them lowering further to park (4" or so) then move up 4 inches and park there. I have removed the fuses and relays with the key on and off in an attempt for it to reset and start parking correctly. A few times the wipers eve stop in the fully up position... It's almost like the system is just completely reversed where it should be.

Any insight on how to reset the wipers to park correctly?

It seems one problem, turns into 2+. I have this car for 10 years and its been relatively trouble free. I guess its all catching up to me!

    Thanks in advance,
    John

Happens to me frequently. Check the fuses & relays to the windshield wipers. Pull them out and reinsert or replace, if needed. You may just replace the relays anyway. After that start car and turn wipers on and off. Should reseat properly.

Could be the General Module issue.
If you know someone with a DIS you may want to run a diagnostic on the wiper functions.
However, try Timm's park procedure first, about 8 minutes into the video.

Thanks for the suggestions. I play around more with the fuses and relays.

I hope it’s not the GM. They were fine until I shut the car off mid sweep. I’ve watched Timm’s and tries to park them. But I can only get them down to about 2 inches to where they usually park. I don’t want to push harder and break something.
I only have INPA, I assume the only diagnostics for the wiper system is through DIS?

    thanks again,
    John

In typical e31 fashion the issue went away. I was out of town for a week, came back and fired up the car, the wipers cycled and parked normally. I've tempted fate and run the wipers a few times over this week and all is fine. I'll take that as a win. I got arrogant and went to play a cassette tape, which of course jammed. Project for another day....
