Hi all,
I have been doing some research and I figured I'd ask this community as well to gather a complete picture. I recently financed a used 2022 BMW Z4 M40i for my birthday last month, and lo and behold, I was involved in an 100% not an fault accident. The accident seems pretty minor/moderate. It looked like it was just some paintwork but the wheel steering is pretty damaged as well(Right wheel doesn't turn). My heart is broken but I cannot change the past so I now I have to make the right moves going forward. Can anyone in a similar situation tell me appropriate next steps? Here is what I've gathered so far.
1. Take it to a BMW Certified Repair Center
2. File for Diminished Value Claim
On average, a 2020 BMW with an accident on its CarFax takes about a 3k hit as opposed to a non-accident. The cars I used when gathering data is 2 years older but its still a somewhat accurate representative of the hit I can expect when I sell or go to trade it in.
The components I wanted to learn more about, do you think it's a good idea for me to just take the financial hit now and sell the car after repairs(hopefully before the CarFax gets updated). Or do you think, I should just enjoy the car after it's fixed. To be honest, the fact that it has an accident on file kinda ruins it for me. But I still wanted to ask you folks as to whether I'm letting my emotions get the best of me.
I also wanted to ask if I should take any legal measures to recoup my financial losses.
Yes, take it to a BMW Certified Center and your car should be repaired correctly. And definitely file a diminished value claim.
