Hi Everyone,
I'm considering a 430/440 or a 230/240 for a daily driver/fun car. Unfortunately I have a 72 mile commute (round trip) but it is mostly highway. Also, I'm 6'4".
I can only have one car so I'm trying to get something that is fun but will be comfortable for my commute.
I've read mixed things about comfort in the 4 series, so I'd like to know:
What are your opinions on the 4 series and it's comfort? How is the leg room? After a few hours does your butt hurt? How is the wind/road noise? How is the standard sound system?
Thanks in advance.
3 series has more headroom than 2 or 4. I'm 5'9", sit super leaned back with the steering column extended all the way out and I still find the headroom in a 4 series questionable from a safety perspective.
Modern BMW's all feel about the same to me, seat cushions are hard so the seat positioning has to be perfect to stay comfortable on long drives. We have an F32 4er and F10 5er in the family but it's the E39 that does all the road trips.
oof, that's a bummer about the headroom, and the comfort for the seats. I'll check out the 5 series but I was really hoping I could make a 4 series or 2 series work.
I use my F31 for road trips (16hr +) and it's super comfortable in terms of road noise (with no runflats!) and general comfort. I am 6' 1". I added some seat covers as I don't like sitting on leather for so long. The base sound system is acceptable for most. For USA cars, this is the medium rank sound system, European models have an even more basic sound available. It's not underpowered, but the HK is better.

I’m 6’0” and have a good 3.-4” of spare headroom in the sport drivers seat in my 4-series GC.
My seat bottom is fully lowered down in the back, but I sit in an upright driving position.
With the Adaptive M Suspension it’s a super smooth cruiser on the highways in Comfort mode, and becomes a canyon carving beasty in Sport+.

I'm 5'7" and my spouse is 6'3", and we both don't have any issues regarding comfort in our 2016 428i and 2018 430iC. Both are equipped with M Sport packages/seats with lumbar, adjustable thigh support and upper side bolsters. The 428i has been used for multiple 6-12 hrs trips around the country. Can't beat the 4 cyl for fuel economy, and it's not a slouch either.
