Recommendations for BMW mechanic in the Southeast US

I have a 1990 E30 with an engine that I'm looking to have rebuilt, or in the very least, have the head put on. I am located in the Gulf Coast area of south Alabama and am willing to travel a reasonable distance (within 8 hours) to have this done. Looking for a shop known for solid work and that specializes in BMWs. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You could come to me, but that's likely further than 8 hours.

True Automotive has several Atlanta area shops, and are absolutely BMW specialists with an impeccable reputation.

Well, yes...I can certainly rebuild an engine to whatever spec you like. However, my shop is short one tech right now, and, well, engine rebuilds are terribly time consuming. Sure, I can assemble an M20; there are 2 E30 race cars at my shop right this moment. If you want your cylinder head put on and similar items, we can do that. If you want an engine rebuild, you might just want to buy one to your spec from Metric Mechanic. Certainly, we can install it for you. But full engine rebuilds are really just too time consuming for me to consider right now - I'd end up sending twenty far more profitable jobs away.

Try True in Atlanta; or, buy the engine from Metric Mechanic and we will install it and do other needed work on the car. Or, we'll put your cylinder head on it. Right now, I've got 2 S62's that need sixty hours of work each, thirty hours of work on an X5, forty more hours on a hydraulic suspension Mercedes, and a full schedule of the usual brake jobs, coolant flushes, and diags.

Harrson Motorsports in Alpharetta are pretty good and specialize in, and are enthusiasts of, BMWs.

Yup; tell David that Chris from German Motors sent you if you go there. My business partner Bob races against him, and that's where one of the two E30's in my shop came from.
