    Steering wheel Airbag Cover replacement?

    Hi,

I watched one of M539 YouTube video where he replaced the steering wheel airbag cover here https://youtu.be/hEseFmTjW_A?t=3233.

This got me thinking can we do that on a E39 as well? So I can replace the worn out old cover with a faded BMW badge.

As far I know the badge is molded on the cover so it doesn't become a projectile when the airbag is being deployed.
So new cover is the proper way to fix that.

Does anyone know the part number for just the cover?

In realoem the part number for airbag+cover is 32306757891 or 32306880599.

The driver airbags in E39s were all recalled, will the dealer not just give you a new one?

That's how I "fixed" mine a few years ago hah. Now I put 303 protectant on it to hopefully keep it from falling apart again.

Unfortunately mine isn't original to the car since it's a retrofit from the previous 3 spoke version m steering wheel..
So the dealer is not going to replace that for free..

    What?

If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue

Not all. Mine has no Takata airbags. Only 2002+ E39s were recalled:

Not sure they sell cover only for E39 but here is another option for faded airbag cover and it's what I've done.
Mine was very faded and I had some SEM trim paint and it really did the trick.
As far as BMW emblem, IIRC, there is part # wheel emblem sticker BMW logo with adhesive tape that is pretty much identical size of airbag cover BMW logo and you stick it on top of it and it looks OEM.
I think this is one but double check:
