2014 428I xDrive Convertible Electrical Problem Help

I have a 2014 BMW 428I xDrive Convertible. I think the issue is the Front Electronics Control Module.

Please let me know if you think this is the issue.

The issue began with the turn signals fast flashing like a bulb was burned out. It progressed to the radio not working (the driver information display is dark) and more:

    • the climate control does not work
    • none of the lights in the center portion of the dash work
    • the motor for the CD play will turn on and then back off
    • the back-up lights do not work
    • the rear turn signal lights do not work
    • the convertible roof functions do not work
    • the power seats only work when the vehicle is off, once the car starts, the seats stop working
    • cooling fan runs constantly
    • back windows do not work
    • All warning messages flash in lower right corner
    • Gauge works sometimes

    What still works:

    • car starts and runs
    • brakes lights
    • cruise control
    • front turn signals
    • headlights
    • fog lights (one stays on whenever headlights are on)
    • key fob locks and unlocks and touch lock/unlock works
    • front power windows work

Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

I would say that this car needs a diagnostic scan first. Make sure that the voltages and charging is all normal.

Then, it may be worth investigating if there was any kind of water damage to the FEM. However, I would go by the error read first, one done with a tool capable of reading BMW manufacturer codes.

As far as anything with rear lighting, that would be the REM, the rear electronics module. So I wouldn't go shotgunning parts just yet.
REM is easy to change out and program, FEM is not. FEM contains all the vehicle security functions (what used to be the CAS module in previous gen cars).

    Hello Abel,

The battery was the the first thing I changed out and reset the battery conditioning.

When I made it to the area around the FEM chasing some schotty aftermarket install work, the foam under the rug was wet. That is why I was leaning towards the FEM since anything to the REM feeds through the FEM.

All I have is a schwaben BMW/MINI scanner 14020SCH. Can you recommend a reasonably priced scanner as I have been unable to find anyone in the area with a lot less overhead costs than a dealer.

    Thanks,
