    Exclamation Vapor barrier

Was doing my rear door vapor barriers today and I noticed the doors are pretty weak where the water was. 402B5607-F730-4415-A9F4-3603F62901FC.jpg Is there any way to reinforce this or should I not worry about it and slap the door cards back on

Fiber glass fabric comes to mind as a method of reinforcing. Not sure if that would work, but maybe it would.

If it was me, I'd replace the butyl. But if that's not possible for you at the time then yes, you can heat up and reseal with the old butyl. Just make sure you have a small roller and press really hard down on the barrier so it seals.

The areas where the barrier pulled away , there was dirt stuck to the butyl , so I heated up those areas with a heat gun and scraped a layer off , then added new stuff on top .

Autoparts stores or Amazon should sell new butyl.

The same roller you use for Dynamat or other rattle/sound absorbers works great and is cheap if you get it from a Dynamat supplier. I think they make it cheap so you'll buy their expensive product..
A great ending is all you'll see..

This was trhe cheapest Butyl I found...comes in handy when doing vapor barriers. I use a heat gun and both heat up old and add new where needed.
This Butyl is thin, 1/4 inch so double it up where needed.

That happened to my rear door panel as well. I just dilute some bleach and wipe it down. Wait after like 10-15 min and clean off with a wet cloth. After letting it dry (hair dryer), I layered some fibre glass cloth and mixed some epoxy to reinforce it. A small thin layer is enough after fully cured.

you should use free flowing super glues with fast cure time. just pour it evenly on the weak areas which will absorb it and become hard. that's how I saved mine.

Can still buy 3M Windo-Weld Ribbon sealer at Napa and Advance Auto Parts stores. Make sure you specify windo-weld, not butyl.

Also if your door car is even the slightest warped from water damage. Be sure to add a thin layer of the stuff around the panel clip holes. Water can get through them.

I had the same issue on my 540
The part that holds the puddle light was very bad and would no longer hold the light in place.
I scrubbed the area with a brush and cleaners let it dry completely.
Cut up an old plastic gift card and glued it in around the whole for the puddle light to reinforce and give something for the puddle light to hold on to.
After that was dry I put 2 coats of clear Varathain on affected area.
The door pockets also came unglued I took the opportunity and removed the ash trays and used construction adhesive to glue it back in place
Along with adding door pocket lights and door handle lights
