I have a 2006 330xi with 77,000 miles on it , I bought it new. The dealer says my oil pan is leaking and needs to be replaced and quoted me $4,800 plus tax to replace. The car is immaculate except for the leak but has a book value of around $ 6,000. I live in central Florida. Does anyone have some advice for me.
So a leaking $20 gasket and they wanna charge you how much?
Find a local reputable Indy mechanic. You'll go broke quick sending an old bimmer to the dealer
Paul, go to www.bimrs.org to find a reputable indie shop that specializes in bimmers in your area.

So I just checked at FCP, and the oil pan alone from them is over $1000, so from a dealer it might be $1500 or more. Throw in that it's a xi where you have to remove the front driveshaft in order to remove the oil pan, combined with dealer labor prices and the quoted price starts to make more sense. Yes, it would be crazy to spend that much, so you want to find a independent shop that can do this for far less, perhaps using a used pan which can be had for ~$200.
A leaky oil pan is almost certainly the gasket not the pan. Yea it is a cheap part, but it is also an involved project. It should probably be an $800-$1000 job at an independent. Even if it is the pan, buy it used on eBay.
This car should not be dealer-maintained.
DIY this requires an engine bar ($100) as well as jack, jackstands, standard tools and a lot of patience.
If you pull the pan you should also replace the engine and transmission mounts.
$4,800 is insane. I agree should be a lot less. Not difficult.
It’s an iX which requires the removal of a bunch of parts including a half shaft.
OP, where is the pan leaking?
how bad is the leak ? i had a pan leak for years and it was so small u couldnt even tell from the dipstick level
